Cardinal Bank's team of local lenders and retail bankers is dedicated to making your dreams come true. Click here.
Last night we stopped by LongView Gallery for DC SCORES' annual Score Awards, a reception, celebration, and fundraiser honoring its coaches and volunteers.
We snapped three Board members, Cove Strategies' Stephen Replogle, Zuckerman Spaeder's Carl Kravitz, and UPS's Dontai Smalls, surrounding Liz Weems.
DC SCORES builds teams through after-school programs for 1,500 low-income DC youth at 47 schools by instilling self-expression, physical fitness, and a sense of community. Two more Board members, EVOKE owner Jodi Moraru (who helped plan the event) and Arjuna Solutions' Steve Goodman, bookend Michelle Goodman.
Guests enjoyed drinks and Mediterranean food: mini gyros, spinach pie, and hummus. We loved the lemon cake pops that were passed around. Here, National Geographic'sHanna Toler, Jennifer Bond, and Ashley Landgraf.
DC SCORES' student poet Xavier Crowell, a fifth grader at Arts and Technology Academy, was one of two selected to read his poetry for the audience. He's with his proud parents Marjorie and Munday Crowell; he recently performed in NY at a National Poetry SLAM, and his school got the Teamwork Award.
We went to the fifth annual Sound Bites at the Reagan Building's Wilson Plaza Sunday to benefit DC Central Kitchen. We snapped its reps (in orange shirts) Liz Reinert and Katherine Eklund with Philabundance's Kait Bowdler and Lindsey Palmer.
Guests sampled food and drinks from 25 top DC restaurants, including Bar Pilar, Black Jack, Capital Komboucha, Founding Farmers, Hank's Oyster Bar, Indique, Jaleo, Pearl Dive, Republic, Roofers Union, and Rappahannock River Oysters. Here, Bloomery Distillery's TomKiefer, DC Central Kitchen's Rudy Wayne and The Garden Grill chef General Lewis.
There was music from up and coming artists, Gypsy tunes from DC's Black Masala, beats from DJ Harry Hotter, and hip hop from Ingleside Collective, with members of Fugazi and Delegation Music. Here, Treasury Department's Maria Minkarah, John Ermer, and The Hamilton pastry chef Lauren Petri.
Fusion's WHCD Party!
We went to the Fusion White House Correspondents' Party at Look Restaurant & Lounge. We snapped United We Dream's Mario Carrillo, American Immigration Council's Amanda Peterson Beadle, and Univision's Fernando Pizarro.
Guests enjoyed an open bar and passed hors d'oeuvres. Here, Yahoo News' Chris Moody, Christine Moody, and Buzzfeed's John Stanton.
Fusion is a joint venture between Univision and Disney/ABC with news, pop culture, and satire. Here, Peruvian Brothers' Giuseppe Lanzone and the White House's Fran Holuba.
Voces Action's Adryana Boyne, The Millennial Solution prez Gabrielle Jackson, and Leadership Institute's Paulo Sibaja.
Two-time Latin Grammy award winner Fonseca delighted the crowd.
Wall of Hope!
Bethesda's Urban Country participated in the Race for Hope, a 5K run/walk that raises money for brain tumors and research. Its 150 member team, Jeffrey's Goofy Gang, runs in honor of Jeffrey Roth, company founder, who lost his battle to brain cancer in 1999. They've raised more than $75,000 over the years, but have touched thousands through the Wall of Hope, a 32-foot-long tribute with 300 photos, wishes, and stories for a survivor or in memory of a loved one. This year, Urban Country ran in celebration of 13-year-old brain cancer survivor Mikka Harvey. He's surrounded by Urban Country co-owners, the Roth family: Sascha, Jillian, Rachelle, and Chloe.
