Super Dining Schmoozarama

Last night, more than 500 Bisnow readers joined us for food, booze, and schmooze at the Mellon Auditorium. The only thing we love more than a great party? Re-living it. But because there wasn't room in our pockets for leftovers, we bring you the highlights instead.
Melon Auditorium
The mega event featured 20 top restaurants plus an open bar. It capped off our very first Growth Expo, featuring Mayor Vincent Gray, Under Armour founder Kevin Plank, Honest Tea founder Seth Goldman, MicroStrategy founder Mike Saylor, and other business leaders. Over 800 people joined us for these speakers. (Yes, 300 people went home, leaving more food for us.)

Cuba Libre marketing director Emily Jarmuth and chef Jason Kaufman. Emily tells us that Cuba Libre's concept chef Guillermo Pernot, who helps maintain the authenticity of the restaurant's cuisine across its locations, recently came back from Cuba (inspiring some new menu items). Now, the restaurant is planning a chef exchange program with Cuba starting early next year. They're in the process of securing visas for the chefs.

Dolci Gelati chef and founder Gianluigi Dellaccio served up flavors like strawberry lavender and pumpkin. He already sells his gelato at places like Nationals Park, National Zoo, and Whole Foods, but he tells us he's on the hunt for a space for a Dolci Gelati shop.
Hank's Oyster Bar GM Claude Ibrahim and chef Nicolas Flores
Hank's Oyster Bar GM Claude Ibrahim and chef Nicolas Flores repped the restaurant's Alexandria location with some smoky clam chowder. Their sister restaurant near Dupont Circle recently expanded to include a new bar, lounge, and upstairs dining area. We hear the Alexandria outpost is in the early stages of negotiating an expansion of its own.

Ris chef/owner Ris Lacoste prepared smoked salmon rillettes. Ris recently ranked #20 on Bisnow's Top 40 Power Restaurants. In case you missed the big finale to the list, check it out here.
chef Rudy Volpe, GM Kris Diemar, and sous chef Mourice Reaves
Another Bisnow Power Restaurant: Carmine's. We caught chef Rudy Volpe (reppin' Carmine's NYC roots with his Yankees cap), GM Kris Diemar, and sous chef Mourice Reaves serving heaping helpings of eggplant parmesan. (Carmine's serving small portions would be like Lady Gaga wearing jeans and a white t-shirt.)
Matchbox's Carlos Castera, Jonathan McArthur, Anthony Piscioneri, and co-owner Perry Smith delivered their famous sliders with a side of salad. Perry also informs us that last week's campaign in which local restaurants donated $1 for every Maryland seafood dinner to the Oyster Recovery Partnership netted around $2,000 to help plant baby oysters in the Chesapeake Bay.

B. Smith's team
B. Smith's was represented by GM Andres Hayes and colleagues. A little bit of history for you: B Smith’s dining room in Union Station used to be the suite where presidents— from Taft through Eisenhower—waited for trains due to security concerns after the assassination of President McKinley.
Masa 14's Marc Eber
This is the maniacal laugh of a man making a really good cocktail. Masa 14's Marc Eber shakes up a citrus drink with house-made chipotle ginger infused syrup and Boyd & Blair Potato Vodka (maybe Mr. Potato Head should come with a liver?). Marc calls it the "Hot Lunch." Why? "Have you ever drank your lunch?"

There was also an old fashioned photo booth supplied by Booth-o-Rama. We caught some Bisnow team members inside. Keep it classy, guys.
dueling pianists
What's better than one piano man? Two. That's why we brought in dueling pianists from Bobby McKey's Dueling Piano Bar in National Harbor. They took song requests from the crowd, and we think it's a testament to the high caliber of the attendees that no one asked them to play Rebecca Black's "Friday."
