Appian Realty Advisors has medical suites for lease. Corporate Plaza @ Quantico Center in Dumfries. Appian welcomes new tenants: Health 1st Medical Center, Montclair Physical Therapy, Dumfries Family Medical Clinic, among others! Congrats!

On her first day, Inova Alexandria CEO Christine Candio was handed an ID badge, a new office, and marching orders to complete an $84 million addition to the hospital. Just three months into her new job, she’s confident that addition, known as Project 2010, will be completed on time. In the meantime, Christine has already being recognized for accomplishments: It was National Nurses Week recently when we visited her, and the one-time RN was showered with thank you’s from colleagues.

Christine points to the revamped ER portion of Project 2010 (due for completion in . . .well, you figure it out), which includes an 8-bed clinical decision unit to improve flexibility when triaging.  The ER welcomed 51,000 patients last year and she sees no sign of slowing.  Other additions include: updated OR’s, an exclusive entrance for same-day surgery, and two new cardiovascular interventional radiology labs.  All in all, the 318-bed facility gains 24 new single-patient rooms. Best of all: “It’s still on-time and on budget.”

Christine’s clever screensaver foiled our plans to see Inova’s nuclear launch codes, but she was more forthcoming with her professional associations.  A life-long learner, she’s a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and sits on its national committee. But her proudest title might be the one attached to her name, R.N. “Once an RN, always an RN,” she says proudly. Which makes her pleased that many of her hospital’s nursing staff are nationally certified in their area of specialty.

Need a locksmith in Medford, Massachusetts?  Christine has a key to the entire city.  (And, in a twist of good luck, it works on the hospital supply closet as well.)  Christine was EVP of Hallmark Health in MA before landing in Alexandria this past January.  With degrees from William Paterson and Fairleigh Dickinson (MA in Public Administration), she’s a walking advertisement for NJ’s finest institutions of higher learning, though she was quick to remind us she was born in Queens.  Having spent a life up north, she now gets to be a tourist in her new town, including regular museum visits and walks in Mount Vernon Park.  Despite the newness, she already has restaurant recommendations: Last time she was at Landini Brothers in Old Town, not only was the food delicious, but she spotted local politicos James Carville and Mary Matalin.  Celebs for sure, but when Ragin’ Cajun needs medical advice, he’ll be deferring to the Medicinal Medfordian (note: not her real nickname, yet).
