Really? Some may struggle with the concept in the headline above, but it’s hard to argue with the $4.3 million that the “Lawyers Have Heart” run has raised since 1991 for the American Heart Assn. We were on hand for Saturday’s 10k through Georgetown that drew 5,300 runners from 30 states (from 75 law firms), making it the biggest 10k (6.2 miles for the metrically challenged) in DC.

Somewhere, Thurman Arnold is smiling. The legacy of the Arnold & Porter co-founder lived on through the A&P Thurmanators:” summer associates Andy Bechar, Mohammed Amer, Maria Domanskis, partner Jim Thomas, summer associates Lindsey Carson, Rob Derise, Chris Wynne, Malori Browne and Kelly Smith.

Skadden Arps financial institution regulation partner Jamie Boucher smiles between firm administrator Lauren Harrick and tax associate Brian Duncan. Actually, that might be more grimace than smile: Jamie sprained her ankle pre-race, and even though the pain kicked in at the halfway point, gutted out the last three miles and finished in 678th out of 1,380 women in 60:44. Her motivation? “I ran for ice,” she says.

Dickstein Shapiro associates Mike Weinstein and Jen McCue, partner Mark Thronson, his daughter Lauren and his sister Kate Seitz, in from Wisconsin. Mark, an IP and patent specialist, who runs five miles five days a week on a canal path in Georgetown, was happy with his sub-50 minute time, which put him in 554th out of 1,619 men. Dickstein had one of its biggest turnouts ever, with 63 lawyers and seven staffers participating.

The fastest Mayor in town! Fenty finished in 110th place at 41:21 (that’s a 6:43 mile), just ten minutes behind the winner. The Howard Law grad is an avid runner who’s also well outfitted:  He sports a “Fleet Feet” shirt, which refers to his parents’ store in Adams Morgan. He told us he wasn’t able to prep for the race as much as he wanted, but he was still pretty happy with his time. We’re impressed.
