5 Cool Cribs

Tomorrow! Stop by our Dallas Healthcare Real Estate Summit. Experts discuss what's quickly becoming a boom in healthcare facilities and medical offices. Omni Dallas. Register now!

Office envy used to be jealousy over the corner office with the big mahogany desk. Today, your colleagues covet crystal clear big-screen TVs and Keurig coffeemakers. Here are five sweet spaces to show you how it’s done.

1. TM Advertising

TM Advertising

TM Advertising has the quintessential cool crib. It’s a place where wackiness is encouraged: venting on Post-its or in the Truth Booth is expected, and bikes are supplied for rides both inside and outside the offices (which are just across the way from the American Airlines Center Jumbotrons in Victory Park.) Architect: Gensler.

2. Top Golf

Top Golf

When TopGolf moved into Granite’s 17Seventeen McKinney, the firm wanted the space to be an eye-catching combination of modern and industrial, mixed with best-in-class entertainment. TopGolf real estate director Zach Shor says no one has an office; instead, there are 10 huddle rooms, four conference rooms, and a full bar. Giving the employees a reason to stay at the office: a double kegerator, dedicated wine fridge and wine rack, full entertainment center with an Xbox 360 and Kinect, table tennis, foosball table, two dart boards, and a pop-a-shot machine (on its way). There are also TVs throughout so it's nearly impossible to miss a March Madness game, no matter where you are in the office.

3. WDG Architects

WDG

With floor-to-ceiling views of downtown and the Arts District, WDG Architecture Dallas leadership designed the studio at Bryan Tower to bring natural light and the expansive shot of downtown into the entirety of the 10k SF space. A frameless, seamless glass system was installed at all perimeter conference rooms and private offices to create an open environment that encourages collaboration, says VP/biz development director Mari Henry.

4. Carl Ewert’s Satellite Office

Carl Ewert

JLL managing director Carl Ewert’s idea of a day at the office involves working from his 2k SF Victory Park condo. His favorite feature: the 831k SF balcony. “I can take my work outside on a nice day and read documents while the birds are singing, the water is flowing, and the DART train is going by,” he tells us. Plus, there's the music and atmosphere of Victory Park in the after hours.

5. Transwestern

Transwestern

When clients step into Transwestern’s bright fourth floor at Providence Towers, they may wonder if they’ve gone to the great clouds in the sky as they step into the brightness. (We can’t imagine heaven having that much white to keep clean.) Transwestern’s Marsha Bowers tells us the firm gutted and renovated its new digs last summer with a dine-in kitchen, meeting area called Matt’s Place (named after a longtime Transwesterner Matt Didyk, who died in 2010), the high-tech Cowboys conference room with high-end teleconferencing equipment (and low-tech marker board wall), flexible and open offices, and common areas to reflect the team-oriented approach to CRE.

New 500k SF Industrial Development

IDI closed a 50/50 JV with IIT for the development of the 529k SF Valley Parkway Distribution Center cross-dock building in the DFW Airport submarket of Lewisville. Construction is expected to be completed by August. There are just five existing Class-A buildings in the DFW market that can accommodate requirements in excess of 500k SF, says IDI VP for leasing John Leinbaugh. Knock on wood—rents are rising, as is occupancy.

Jeff Price

Jones Lang LaSalle acquired The Apartment Group multifamily brokerage firm yesterday for an undisclosed amount. The Apartment Group’s founder and president Jeff Price (second from left speaking at a Bisnow event) will join as a managing director, lead the local team, and head JLL's multifamily platform across Texas. Jeff will partner with Jubeen Vaghefi, international director and leader of the multifamily investment sales business, to expand the firm’s national multifamily coverage.
