Yesterday, the Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers boarded the magic bus of commercial real estate for a virtual tour of the 2010 markets. (It was a CGI bus, but the fact that no deals over 200k-SF have been transacted in 20 months in the O'Hare submarket was, unfortunately, too real.
CBRE's John Gledhill

The event, held not in a galaxy far, far away but at the Riverway Auditorium in Rosemont, was hosted by CBRE's John Gledhill. Highlights: footage of a new park being developed by The Alter Group, called Cornerstone, in Grayslake and a 13-acre build-to-suit space available from ProLogis in North Cook County.

Paine/Wetzel-ONCOR International's Michael and Mark Nelson, with Darwin Realty's Ryan Hanley

We snapped Paine/Wetzel-ONCOR International's Michael and Mark Nelson, here with Darwin Realty's Ryan Hanley; they recently repped Charter Steel in its purchase of a 104k-SF warehouse for $1.5 million at 1600 S. Kostner in Chicago. They worked with Korman Lederer's Harvey Korman, while Paine/Wetzel's Rodger Chenore, Jeff Girling, and Terry Lynch, represented the seller, Leeco Steel.

ACRE's Liana Mirea, Daniels Sloane's Joyce Sloane, CIBCO Realty Group's Eileen Curry and Paine/Wetzel-ONCOR's Elise Couston

The women worked deals of their own: ACRE's Liana Mirea, Daniels Sloane's Joyce Sloane, CIBCO Realty Group's Eileen Curry, and Paine/Wetzel-ONCOR's Elise Couston. Joyce said her office properties did better than industrial last year, 10 office deals to one industrial.

Author Ben Johnson
Billionaire real estate mogul Sam Zell is one of history’s greatest contrarian investors, according to a new unauthorized biography, Money Talks, Bullsh*t Walks. Our Dallas bureau met up with the author, Ben Johnson, who says Sam is full of colorful quotes that don’t beat around the bush. We snapped Ben with his book at a Plano bookstore. (Just like a cellmate in Raleigh, Sam shares a shelf with Bernie Madoff.) Released last week, it recounts Sam's life as an entrepreneur, illustrating how he built his $5 billion real estate empire and then became one of the most hated men in the media after the acquisition and subsequent bankruptcy of Tribune Co.
