UP RAMS PLAZA

New York-based The Kalikow Group, in a JV with Charlotte-based Argus Development Group, just bought the 113k SF grocery-anchored Rams Plaza shopping center in Chapel Hill for $13M.

Rams Plaza Associates just bought a Food Lion-achored shopping center in Chapel Hill and plans a $1.5M makeover
The team, along with a Florida investor called BCP Rams Plaza, goes by the name Rams Plaza Associates. It plans a $1.5M makeover of the façade and tenant spaces, Argus’ Stan Garnett tells us. The 30-year-old center is about 95% occupied and anchored by Food Lion and CVS. Argus will be responsible for renovations and property management and will be co-marketing the property with Raleigh-based Retail Strategies.

TRIBBLE: "OPEN ALL YOUR GIFTS IN LIFE"

Event planner Mary Tribble, after a near-death experience, had an epiphony
After what could easily have been a fatal car crash on Christmas Eve ’08, Charlotte event planner extraordinaire and local business icon Mary Tribble had an epiphany. Life gives you certain gifts, she says. Don’t try to enjoy them once you’re dead. It was a grim message, though delivered in Mary’s affable style. The former owner of Tribble Creative Group was featured speaker this week at CREW Charlotte’s monthly luncheon at the Ritz Carlton Uptown.
About 140 people attended the CREW Charlotte event at the Ritz Carlton
About 140 attended and learned how Mary resolved (her buzz word for the engagement) to sell Tribble Creative Group shortly after the accident. Approaching 50, Mary had owned the company almost 25 years. It was time for a change, she told the crowd. She finally sold the company last year to long-time associate Cassie Brown. But Mary had hardly slipped off her work shoes before the Democratic National Conference Committee tapped her on the shoulder to be chief of events planning for the big show this September in Charlotte. “Change is not just about resolve,” Mary said. “It’s about turning chance and adversity into something good.”
Outgoing CREW Charlotte President Holly Alexander and incoming CREW Charlotte President Dawn Royle
And change also has taken place within the CREW Charlotte ranks. Concorde Construction Co’s Holly Alexander (left) stepped down in December from her one-year tenure as president of CREW Charlotte. (We'll miss her.) She, however, has been replaced by Master Title Agency’s Dawn Royle, who's digging into her new role with gusto. “Based on conversations I’ve had in various market sectors, people are busy,” Dawn tells us. “As president, I would like to think I can bring real, meaningful business opportunities to our members.”

NEW EATS AT SOUTHPARK

City Tavern of Charlotte has leased almost 8,200 SF at SouthPark Mall
City Tavern of Charlotte has leased almost 8,200 SF at SouthPark Mall. The space was the former San Antonio’s Modern Mexican and is next door to Dick’s Sporting Goods. Ligon Commercial Real Estate’s Marla Sessoms and Aaron Ligon repped Simon Property Group, which owns the mall, as well as the adjoining boutique retail center The Village at SouthPark. City Tavern’s John Weinbrenner tells us construction should get underway this month in time for a March opening. The restaurant, which tries to capture the history of American dining, features steak and seafood entrees from $12 to $24.

The build-your-own bison burger and the tomato gorgonzola soup leave us breathless. Just don’t try to say it three times fast. Send your news and info to lee.howard@bisnow.com.
