| Kid Power DC program director Andria Hollis isn’t one you'd expect to find on MTV's The Real World. Yet she made a cameo in the most recent episode after cast member Emily volunteered at the non-profit that provides educational programs for underserved kids. And she didn't even have to get into a bar fight to do it. |

When MTV producers contacted Kid Power last summer, Andria and executive director Max Skolnik spent several hours debating how the publicity might help their cause and whether they wanted to be associated with a show known for sex and drama. They ultimately decided to interview Emily to see if her heart was really in it (and make sure she wasn't too crazy). Of course, the 30 minute interview boiled down to about 30 seconds of the episode. “That cracked me up,” Andria says.

Emily volunteered for Kid Power a dozen times throughout the summer, though cameras followed her only part of the time. In last week's show, Emily is shown volunteering at Edmund Burke School, writing poems with kids. "She was amazing with our kids. They loved her," Andria tells us. She can't comment on Emily's portrayal in the rest of the season, because she hasn't been watching it. (She didn't even finish watching the whole episode she appeared in.) But we're assured that other staff members are following it closely... for work, of course.

Kid Power may be the only non-profit to ever send an e-mail encouraging donors watch an episode of The Real World, especially one called "Cheaters, Beaters and Pavement Eaters." Though it hasn't inspired any big checks just yet, several people have since contacted the org about volunteering. Kid Power's website, which normally gets 20 hits a day, spiked to 400 after the episode aired. We expect the real fan mail will start pouring in after this appearance in Bisnow.

| WHAT CITIZENS UNITED MEANS FOR YOU |
| |
The Supreme Court's ruling in the Citizens United case on campaign finance has the potential to give associations a bigger megaphone when it comes to political endorsements. Associations can now use general funds to independently promote or oppose a political candidate. (Directly cutting a check to candidates is still a no-no.) That doesn't make PACs obsolete; au contraire, Venable's Ronald Jacobs and George Constantine tell us PACs, which are still the only way for orgs to contribute to candidates, will become even more important for campaigns trying to cut through the increased background noise from corporations and organizations.

Though the ruling could open up new visibility to associations, not everyone will be willing to jump right in because there aren’t detailed regulations on how disclosures will work. Ronald and George say one of the top questions they've been asked by associations is how much they will have to disclose. The jury is still out on how the FEC will otherwise come down on implementing the decision, but they say nothing is likely to be determined before this election cycle. That means organizations taking advantage of the ruling will be operating in somewhat of a gray area.

| TWEET OF THE WEEK: NEWEST FOLLOWER |

American Society of Travel Agents CEO Bill Maloney trumps most association execs when it comes to his Twitter savvy. Normally, he devotes his 140 characters to travel topics like the best drives in the world, Vietnam's beer culture, or airport security. But we caught this tweet, announcing the birth of his first grandson, last week. Congrats, Bill!
