We want to remind everyone to beware the Ides of March and scroll to the end for our March Madness bracket contest. Saturday night, we joined 400 others at the black tie Washington First Youth Foundation gala at the Tysons Ritz.

Here, Ernst & Young gov’t/public sector markets leader Marc Andersen, his wife, gala chair and WashingtonFirst Bank CEO Shaza Andersen, who founded Washington First Youth Foundation, emcee Fox 5 News anchor Laura Evans, looking unbelievably slim after giving birth to her third child four weeks ago, and her husband, Manatos & Manatos SVP Mike Manatos.

During furious bidding at the silent auction, we found Paul Williams, who’s helped Strayer University achieve extraordinary growth since he went there two years ago, and his wife, Washingtonian publisher Cathy Merrill Williams, flanking four of the evening’s organizers: Natalie MacDonald, her husband, Service Force USA CEO Chad MacDonald, VA Spine Institute CEO Tom Schuler, and his wife, Diane Schuler.

Ernst & Young’s Federal team were huge supporters of the Washington First Youth Foundation. This year’s beneficiary, Youth for Tomorrow, got a standing O after a moving talk by a young woman who’d been helped.

Maya!

Friday night we went to the U Street corridor’s historic Lincoln Theater for the thirteenth annual fundraiser of the See Forever Foundation and the five campuses of the Maya Angelou Public Charter School, which create opportunities for lower income students for college and a career. After giving an inspiring talk, Dr. Maya Angelou joined AOL International founder and See Forever board member Jack Davies.

Novartis’ Kimberly MacKay, Adrian Hawkins, and Marilyn Priestly enjoyed student poetry readings based on Langston Hughes’ Sympathy and a performance by the Evans High School Choir.

Event sponsor Booz Allen Hamilton’s Mark McLane, Carlos Lemus, and Pamela Hardy

Books!

Yesterday, we went to Bethesda’s Edgemoor neighborhood for a fundraiser to save Glover Bookstore and snapped the proprietor, Bruce Stein, flanked by the party’s hosts, Sarah Gorman and Willee Lewis. We learned how many independent bookstores have closed in recent years: Trover, Olssons, Travel, Treetop, Chapters….

NIH’s Nancy Bulger, long-time Georgetown resident Richard Thompson, artist Lolo Sarnoff, who hosted the event, and her co-chair for this year’s Arts for Aging gala, doctor Joyce Hagel.

Audrey Bouviers!

We stopped by Georgetown’s L2 Lounge for the first Audrey Bouviers happy hour last week, named after Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O (whose maiden name was Bouvier) for young professional women who want to do volunteer work in the community. Here, TAPS’ Elizabeth Kraft, who was on The Bachelor this season with Jake, Washington Life’s Maci Peterson, and Audrey Bouviers founder, Sanam Toossi.

Stanton Communications’ Jessica Vastyan and Meredith Golden, Little Black Blog’s Quinn Woodward-Pu, and Financial Dynamics’ Mary Kathryn Covert.

SA-Tech’s Kristina Griffin, Washington Fine Properties’ Lizzy Connelly, and Advisory Board Companies’ Rachael Wang.

Bracket Contest!

Yep, it’s that time of year—March Madness—and even the Prez picks games. We’re running the Bisnow Bracket again, where you can compete against others in the Bisnow Nation for the title of Supreme Bracketpicker Extraordinaire! If you win, we’ll come to your office and take your picture, so everyone will know how brilliant you are. It’s simple: Go to this ESPN page, create a free account, and sign up for the Bisnow on Business group; the password is Bisnow—we’re very creative. May the best person win!
