Nip/Tuck!

Runway shows, makeovers, and 30 boutiques each night selling at incredible pricesCrystal City BID's Crystal Couture returns next week. We're co-hosting its closing night, Feb. 6, which is already garnering lots of buzz; be there every night. It's free! Info

Last night, we joined a caring group of animal activists, including actresses Wendie Malik and Kelly Carlson—in DC for meetings on the Hillfor an intimate dinner at downtown DC fave Teatro Goldini.

Kelly Carlson (Nip/Tuck) is flanked by two of her fans: Georgetowner Carol Joynt, who’s writing her memoirs and contributing a weekly column for the New York Social Diary, and her son Spencer (GDS senior, headed to Wake Forest) who first introduced his mom to Kelly’s hit TV series. The Joynts have seen every episode of Nip/Tuck. Kelly, an avid rider, and a graduate of the prestigious U.S. Pony Club, educated us on equine cruelty issues.

Wendie Malik (Just Shoot Me, Frasier) and Kelly are flanked by Humane Society prez Wayne Pacelle and EVP Michael Markarian, and Hogan & Hartson’s Christine Warnke. Wendie and Kelly are both spokespersons for The Humane Society, which we’re supporting tonight at Sugar and Champagne at the downtown Ritz (details in Where to be Scene below).

Art!

Last night we also headed to the Corcoran Gallery, which hosted a member preview reception for the soon-to-open exhibit, Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales. Wells Fargo’s Meredith Wilkes, who’s just moved to DC from Charlotte, National Archive’s Corrie Gilchrist, and Coca-Cola’s Caroline Osburne.

The Corcoran PR team Rachel Cothran and Kristen Guiter surround their intern, Melanie Kimmelman. The exhibit opens to the public this Saturday, through April 25.

Lucida’s Kamran Hasan, The Pink Line Project’s Philippa Hughes, with Swedish Scene publisher Susanna Michelsen and her husband, PR guru Alan Hermesch, who told us they recently returned from Susanna’s native Sweden. Who knew The Scene Bisnow had a Swedish competitor?

Olé!

Last night, we also went to a Spanish wine and tapas tasting at the home of Bognet Construction’s Jennifer Bognet (third from right). She’s surrounded by the evening’s other hosts: Pitcairn’s Danielle Oristian-York, USI Insurance’s Jennifer Beals-Gitner, BB&T Wealth’s Kirsten Lawrence Brazley, and Baker Tilly’s Barbara Schaefer McDuffie (who selected the wines), Katherine Wiernicki, and Amelia Hillman.

This was the first event by this group, and didn’t have an agenda, so women could network in a casual atmosphere. The Spanish wines complimented the Mediterranean catering by Windows. Here: Bognet’s Tracey Lawhon, Aronson & Co’s Lisa Cines, and Fox Architects’ Sabret Flocos.

It's great when men come to women’s events: AtSite’s Mark Strandquist is flanked by UGL Equis’ Erika Gilmore and his wife, Tire Industry Association’s Sabine Goblet-Strandquist.

Helping Haiti!

We love the number and variety of Haiti fundraisers. We went to another last Friday at Georgetown’s lululemon and snapped Greater Washington Publishing’s Laura Rosenwinkel, HHS’ Marko Mijit, DOE’s Greg Stillman, makeup artist Rebekah Shriver, and HHS’ Basim Motiwala. If you haven’t contributed yet, six more are listed in Where to be Scene below.

The event benefited Doctors Without Borders, currently operating on 25 people daily in Port-au-Prince. Sponsors included Erwin Gomez Salon, Josephine, and Georgetown Cupcake. Here: Electrocom’s Bijan Ganji, Josephine’s Siamak Saadatian, and Corcoran student Goli Abedini

Madeleine Starkey, Vanessa Meccarielli, Patrick Dowd, and Liz Fritz contributed to this issue.
