Fashion!

We went to McKinley Technology High School last week for the Project FUNDway Fashion Show competition hosted by the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce. We snapped Kustom Look Clothiers Kwab Asamoah and fashion designer Tashia Senn.

DC City Council supported Project FUNDway and Councilman Harry Thomas, who chaired it, said he wants young Washingtonians to know that this city isn't just a government town, but also has a budding fashion industry. He’s surrounded by GWFCC’s Maggy Francois, Maurisa Potts, Christine Brooks-Cropper and Evelyn Brooks Jewelry’s Evelyn Brooks. Maurisa and Evelyn were judges.

Three students created a collection judged by fashion industry professionals to get a $5,000 college scholarship for a fashion education. The winner: Abegbemisola Ademisoye (left) shows her collection, inspired by industrial femininity.

For the Troops!

The Dandelion Patch at Reston Town Center organized an event to send cards to troops for the holidays: they supplied the stationery and postage; their customers and friends wrote kind messages; and the Red Cross will ship the cards across the world. Red Cross' Melinda Kelejian, McLean Capital's Andrea Young, Judith Voss, UBS' Anne McCabe, Dandelion Patch owner Heidi Kallett, and Donna Ritter came to help out.

Swiss Spa!

We caught up with Ada Polla of Georgetown spa Alchimie Forever.  Originally started by her family in Switzerland, Ada brought it to DC in 2004, while attending Georgetown B-school. The showroom sells 17 beauty products for men and women, which can also be found at local salons such as The Grooming Lounge, and there’s a little spa room in back for treatments. Ada’s one beauty rule: “Anything you apply to your face, apply to your neck.”
