Kidney Ball!

Results Gym will be ready to lift you and your employees from a gravy-induced stupor. Leave packing on winter pounds to hibernators. See ad at right.

Contest Winner:  Congratulations to Politico’s Carolyn Landes, who correctly answered the question and gets two tickets to Washington Improv Theatre. (FYI, most of you got it right: Prangstgrup – Reach was not created by Improv Everywhere.)

One of DC's top charity events for 29 years has been the Kidney Ball, so last Saturday we headed to the Hilton Washington.

The DC area has the country’s highest incidence of kidney disease, so we were pleased not only to kick off the holiday season in style, but also to raise money for research, screening, and education. Eagle Bank president Ron Paul received an Outstanding Achievement Award. He’s here with QinetiQ’s Lynn Smiroldo and her husband CSC’s Victor Smiroldo.

Nationals center fielder Nyjer Morgan is flanked by National Sports Management’s Michael Giorgio and McDonald’s Kenny Black. A staggering $1.15 million was raised for kidney research.

One of the gala’s three vice chairs, INDUS Corporation president Carleton Jones, with his wife Dona, and gala chair, Mid-Atlantic Bank of America president Bill Couper, and his wife Lisa. The food was fantastic; we particularly loved the dessert: mango mousse, chocolate mousse, warm apple spice cupcake with caramel sauce, cinnamon ice cream, and berries. So much for our vow to save calories for Thanksgiving.

The other gala vice chair (second from right) Information Innovators CEO Debbie Ikirt, with her husband Steve, and Lockheed Martin’s Dan Matthews and his wife, Chevy Chase Bank’s Robin Matthews.

Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry (in red) is flanked by Business Intelligence Solutions CEO Stanley Campbell and his wife, live auction winner CGI VP Cheryl Campbell, showing off her new Blondie-autographed guitar. Also here, other band members, after entertaining the crowd: Matt Katz-Bohen (keyboard), Chris Stein (guitar), Leigh Foxx (bass), Paul Carbonara (guitar), and Clem Burke (drums).

Bikes!

In G'town at its waterfront store, CycleLife USA hosted a fundraiser for World Bicycle Relief on Friday. WBR donates bikes to Africans in need, so that children can make the commute to school, parents to work, and medical workers to sick families. Here, WBR’s Jill Reid, Katie Bolling, and president F.K. Day

Skanska’s Brennan McReynolds and Schering-Plough’s Vaughan O’Brien join WBR co-founder Leah Missbach Day, F.K.’s wife. Leah is a professional photographer in Chicago, whose work was donated to the silent auction.

Dogs!

We went to G'town's Toka Salon & Spa on Sunday to get ready for the holidays with our favorite four legged friends; 50% of the day’s proceeds were donated to Fashion for Paws, benefiting the Washington Humane Society. Scarlet waited patiently while Ask Miss A’s Andrea Rodgers got a manicure.

Babes & Ballers prez Sol Tucker with his rescue dogs, Sheeba and Samson, and WUSA’s Angie Goff, holding pit bull pup Lucy, up for adoption on WHS’ website. People enjoyed canapés from Peacock Cafe, cupcakes by Suga Chef Desserts, and a bubbly bar by Barefoot; dogs enjoyed Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery & Boutique.

Child advocate Maureen Bryant with her Pomeranian, Tasha, Fox 5’s Steve Chenevey, and Washington Humane Society’s Tara deNicholas with her rescued Jack Russell Terrier, Tinsley.

Toka Salon’s Nuri Yurt and Ipek styled attorney Stef Woods’ locks with her rescued Bijon, Flake.
