Wonderful Folks!

This Friday, it's the Roberto Benigni of DC parties. The Italian Party, from The Scene Bisnow and Italians in DC at Eye Bar, 1716 Eye St, NW. Oct 23, 9pm-2am. Peroni models, drink specials including the Negroni, and, of course, Italians! RSVP

So many people in DC are busy giving back to the community, as the first four stories show. Yesterday we attended Salute to the Stars at downtown Morton’s Steakhouse as the Washington Wizards honored military and their families by serving them drinks and dinner.

Wizards player Javaris Crittenton, Asst Coach Wes Unseld, Jr, teammate Caron Butler, with Walter Reed’s Kelly Longenecker after dinner.  Who knew Caron was an experienced chef!

We snapped seven foot forward JaVale McGee with Andrews Air Force Base’s Chakara Reeves and Tanika Cornish.

Pie Time!

We stopped by the downtown JW Marriott Tuesday for the launch of Food & Friends Thanksgiving pie sale, Slice of Life. Each pie you purchase provides a day of meals to someone battling a life-challenging illness. ABC 7 News reporter Cynne Simpson with Food & Friends Executive Director Craig Shniderman.

Food and Friends volunteers Stacey Norman, Sapna Batheja, and Carrie Stoltzfus tell us five types of pie will be delivered or be available for pick-up at 15 locations on Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Funds raised provide meals, groceries, and nutrition counseling to 2,800 people with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. www.foodandfriends.org/pie

Business Buddies!

Konica Minolta Business Solutions’ Scott Meikle, AT&T’s Chad Navarrete, Audi’s Rachel Sattler and Katie Smith, and AT&T’s Jeff Smith. Best Buddies helps people with intellectual disabilities become part of mainstream society.

Fright at the Museum!

We attended the National Museum of Crime and Punishment’s preview of its Halloween adventure: Dead Men Walking: Fright at the Museum Monday night, a haunted house based on historic criminal events: 125 men who were executed in a Tennessee electric chair. GW theatre students Leah Gravius, Aly Seeberger, and Christine Doyle discovered the ghosts moved with the chair to DC.

Here: GW students Jessica Watters, Elaine Till, and Jeremiah Kirstein. Fright at the Museum opened yesterday, and runs Wednesday through Saturday the next two weeks.

Comedy Tonight!

We spoke to Aubrey Plaza, currently featured in Parks & Recreation and Funny People, one of 60 comedians performing in DC as part of Bentzen Ball, tonight through Sunday. Seven venues near U Street, with top names from the Sarah Silverman Program, the Daily Show, the Tonight Show.

Bisnow: Where are you answering these questions from?

Aubrey: Nicolas Cage's patio. I'm using his macbook.

Bisnow: Anybody in particular you’re excited about doing stand-up with here in DC?

Aubrey: Nick Offerman from Parks & Rec is doing some shows so it will be fun to hang out and do comedy with that old mustache. [Click here for the whole interview.]
