Happy Belgian Independence Day!
| A big shoutout to sponsor Georgian Apartments! Celebrate the new rooftop pool, sixteen stories above downtown Silver Spring, with a party featuring global cuisine, cocktails and the cool sounds of Seyhan Duru. Wednesday, August 5. RSVP here. |

| Last night was the eve of Belgian Independence Day, so we stopped by Capitol Hill's Belga Cafe to celebrate. |
| |
SJG Properties’ Jessica Guerrero, Latis Imports’ Anthony Giardina and Bob Stacey, and Belga chef-owner Bart Vandaele enjoy Belgian ale. Bart came to the US 12 years ago, and located his cafe in the bustling Eighth Street SE corridor, near where he lives.

2911 Productions’ intern Morgan Goodale and founder Bronwyn Jiminez celebrated properly: with Belgian beer and frites accompanied by a classic Belgian trio of mayo for dipping.

They’ve been celebrating for days. On Friday, it was Blondes Have More Fun: staff wore blond wigs while serving blond-beer cocktails and fave beer Hoegaarden. We love Bart's chef coat.

We caught Steptoe & Johnson’s Tim Columbus and wife Penny enjoying the weather and the frites.

Movies on the Mall!
| |
We also kicked off the week at the Trust for the National Mall’s Screen on the Green reception at Johnny’s Half Shell on Capitol Hill. We snapped Hill staffers Liz McWhorter and Brandon Ashley.
| |
Everyone was delighted that the much-loved Screen on the Green returned this summer. Here: Comcast’s Sam Lancaster, Time Warner’s Cameron Gilreath, and Trust chairman Chip Akridge.
| |
The Mall was packed for this summer’s first flick, Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Despite the rain earlier, hundreds showed up with blankets, tarps, and coolers.

Eating In!
| |
Last week, we lunched with Windows Catering in Alexandria. Marketing VP Alina Zhukovskaya and EVP Andrew Gerstel told us they accommodate any budget, from $9 a person in-office to $180 multi-course gourmet meals.
| |
In the 12,000 sq ft kitchen, we met executive pastry chef Laurent Lhuillier, who led Team USA in Food Network’s World Pastry Team Championship; booking manager Humberto Oliva; executive chef Pasquale Ingenito; and Bisnow intern Juliann Lorditch.

Club Red!
| |
We kicked off Club Red, set up by the Red Cross to engage young professionals fulfilling its disaster relief mission. Here: PGA pro Hunter Wood, Element 126’ Scott Stephens (center), and Red Cross’ Nan Moring, Jessica Adams and Ryan Kaltenbaugh.
| |
We snapped Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Pedro Khoury, IFC’s Leila Search, BuildingDC.com’s Jesse Kaye, and Washington Business Journal’s Wills McGill at Darlington House.

Buzzed For a Cause!
| |
We went to Penn Quarter’s Indebleu to help ArtStream distribute its film Knights of Glory to children’s hospitals. The film’s director Patricia Woolsey and playwright Sally Kinka flank the star, Julie Bain, who shaved her head, as she does in the movie; proceeds will be split between ArtStream and the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. You can watch her shave her head.

ArtStream is a DC-based non-profit that brings the power of performing arts to communities in need. ArtStream board members Lennie Magida and Aisha Salem flank chair Geoffrey Lewis.
| |
Makeda Saggau-Sackey, Heather Mahoney, Mary-Kate Rasa, Madeleine Starkey, Packy Fancher and Juliann Lorditch contributed to this issue.
