Michelle!
& Other Powerful Women

Big shout-out to great new Bisnow sponsor The Manhattan Club! It’s New York City’s largest all suites resort and its key location at 56th St and 7th Ave makes it the place to stay when you’re in the Big Apple! Click here and tell them we sent you to enjoy great discounts.

The first lady was the headliner yesterday at the DC Cares Business and Nonprofit Philanthropy Awards luncheon at the Renaissance.

Michelle Obama spoke about the value of service and urged everyone to keep giving their time to serve others.

Despite the throng of well-wishers, she managed to be gracious to everyone as she mingled after lunch.

Power Lunch!

We hosted lunch for Bisnow friends and clients at Bourbon Steak in Georgetown’s Four Seasons. GM Mark Politzer told us they’re always packed with men, and he hopes to welcome more power women. Before the feast: Structure Tone’s Joanna Hoffschneider, Hickok Cole’s Yolanda Cole, Strelmark’s Hilary Fordwich, and Cherry Bekaert and Holland’s Susan Moser.

Clockwise from front left: OPX's Barbara Mullenex, CBH’s Stacy Benes, Microsoft’s Teresa Carlson, CresaPartners’ Caryn Bailey, Rational Retention's Lauren Gilbert, Structure Tone’s Joanna Hoffscneider, SF Design Group’s Sahar Farivar, Gilbert Oshinsky’s Rachel Kronowitz, Hickok Cole’s Yolanda Cole, Strelmark’s Hilary Fordwich, CBH’s Susan Moser, The Scene Bisnow’s Margot Machol, The Kane Company's Joy Newton-Grubb, and Microsoft’s Tonya Klause.

Saving lives!

We stopped by the headquarters of the American Red Cross across from the White House to meet CEO Gail McGovern, who took the reigns last April. In addition to its well-known work in disasters, we learned it provides 43% of the nation’s blood supply, is the first to respond in peace-time disasters, and makes over 600k phone calls each year to help military families. Gail is here with three women who’ve stayed friends since their kids started school at Landon: Ginger Pickle, Neena Shenoy, and Lisa Beek.

Power in pearls: Capitol Concierge CEO Lynda Ellis and Reston Limo CEO Kristina Bouweiri in front of the beautiful windows designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany, a gift from the North and the South to promote reconciliation after the Civil War.

New Store!

Looking for fabulous fashion without spending designer dollars, we stopped by the grand opening of Old Town’s Mint Condition, an upscale designer consignment boutique. Owner Toni Henderson and Urban Events’ Kate Wahl pointed out this summer’s hottest colors and latest trends.

Maurisa Potts and Sarah Kornbluth joined the Recessionista movement while enjoying signature Mint Condition Mojitos and Lavender Moon cupcakes.
