Going to the Dogs!

Tiger Woods had a spectacular win last weekend. Now you can see him in person. The AT&T National begins June 29, at Bethesda's Congressional Country Club! More here.

The Washington Humane Society hosted its 22nd annual Bark Ball at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night. Washingtonians and their four legged friends showed up dressed to the ca-nines (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique owner Michelle Miller D’Ettore and Kristina Robertson show off their fabulously dressed dogs.

WHS Prez Lisa LaFontaine thanked guests as DC's only formal evening for the four-on-the-floor crowd raised $250,000.

Oprah!

The eleventh annual Uncommon Height Gala was held at the Washington Hilton on Thursday, as over 2,000 people came out to honor Oprah Winfrey. She’s flanked by the head of Women in the NAACP, Dr. Thelma Daley and former Labor Secretary, now CEO of New Ventures, Alexis Herman, behind 97 year-old civil rights pioneer Dorothy Height, for whom the gala was named.

Safeway real estate developer Michelle Shelton, the Wright Law Group’s Arnettia Wright, and the Stemmons Group’s Lakeila Stemmons.

Marsha!

Well-known Georgetown gallery owner Marsha Ralls was recently appointed CEO of Children’s Pressline, whose DC Bureau launches this Thursday at the National Press Club. It’s a nonprofit that engages youth in journalism so they become active participants and civic leaders; Marsha, who’s standing with Myles Miller and Nathan and Jake Feldman, told us that good journalism is crucial for a healthy democracy.

Men’s Health!

It was a man’s world Monday night at Morton’s Steakhouse downtown when Georgetown University Medical Center hosted its Tenth Annual Men’s Health event to benefit the Prostate Center at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. More than 100 leaders in medicine, business and politics, gathered to learn about prevention and treatment of the disease in a fun atmosphere. We caught up with former NBA star and Congressman, now with Homeland Security Capital Corp, Tom McMillen and Corstone’s Bud Hawk.

We learned that prostate cancer is the most common malignant cancer in men, accounts for 29 percent of new cancer diagnoses, and that DC has a death rate nearly double the national average. Georgetown is spearheading efforts to eradicate the disease. Here: American Management Corp CEO Brett Greene, United Medical Center’s Dr. Julian Craig, Calvin Smith and DC Councilmember Yvette Alexander’s Chief of Staff J.R. Myers.

Dogs Parties Again!

We also joined some four legged friends at Summer Yappy Hour at the Park Hyatt’s Blue Duck Tavern to benefit the Washington Humane Society with Booz Allen’s Emily McNabb, Cindy Westby, Hillary Kleiner and her adopted pup Jessie, and Schafer Corp’s Shari Clayman. Is it our imagination, or does Jessie seem unnaturally interested in that glass of vino?

We snapped this of dog lover Charlie Martel and his (formerly) abandoned best friend Shantih, adopted from the Alexandria Welfare League. Shantih, whose name means peace, has visited Walter Reed numerous times to offer the soldiers love and support.

Accountant Patricia Boone with her Brittany spaniel, Casey, who doesn’t really look like a vampire in person (or do you say in dog?) Casey was a fan of the pumpkin carob dog treats from Georgetown’s The Dog Shop.
