On Saturday night, we went to the residence of a DC artist to celebrate spring.

Mark T. Smith, the official illustrator of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and his wife, Lani Hay, left, President of Lanmark Technology, are with their friend Tara Callis in front of Mark’s art.

Fitness for Life’s David Keller and Lanmark Technology’s Alyce Fernebok.

Jordan Haas, CTPartners’ Beth Solomon, Congressional Quarterly’s David Hawkings and Bloomberg News’ Timothy Burger are friends of Mark, who’s had eight major exhibits in NY, DC and LA.

Frozen Four!

We were on hand at the Verizon Center Friday night as 32 student athletes from across the nation went head-to-head in an East vs. West skills competition to gear up for Saturday’s big game. It’s the first time DC hosted a Division I NCAA hockey championship event. After the thrilling final, when Boston University topped Miami of Ohio in a 4-3 overtime comeback, we hope there will be lots more.

The Frozen Four stirred up nostalgia for Capitals GM George McPhee, who won the Hobey Baker Award as MVP when he was at Bowling Green.

This year’s award went to BU’s senior defenseman Matt Gilroy, here with the award’s committee chairman, Lance Madson,

Potenza!

Also on Saturday night, we ran into Cassidy & Pinkard broker Bobby Schwartz and friend Carolina Reynolds of Alston & Bird, here with Steptoe & Johnson attorney Tim Columbus. Bobby and Carolina just came back from their third surfing trip to Costa Rica, where she’s from. In between trips, she keeps in shape by doing yoga at Down Dog in G’Town. Which is probably a good thing, considering the irresistibility of Potenza’s thin crust pizza.

CONTEST RESULTS!

Many thanks to all of you who wrote in with slogans for Crooked Monkey tee shirts. Our favorites are: It doesn't matter how you played, but who won the game (Betsy Schuman); I'm not a nerd, I just look like one (Susan Lowenfeld); You're not that hot, I'm just drunk (Pam Sorensen); and I'm Not A Bad Person, I Just Did A Bad Thing (Tom Egly). We’ll forward all of them to Micha Weinblatt, Crooked Monkey’s head honcho. Who knows? Maybe some day Ryan Seacrest will wear a T-shirt with your slogan on it.

Kristina D’Ambrosio and Makeda Saggau-Sackey contributed to today’s issue.
