We went to see mega-star comedian Steve Harvey signing books at the downtown Barnes and Noble yesterday.
| |
We snapped this of Steve telling us about his new bestselling book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, in which he lets women inside the mind of a man.
| |
Miesha Neal, Crystal Smith, and Nidia Smith hopped on the train from Maryland to get Steve's signature on their favorite self-help book. The line stretched out the door, but it went quickly.

| Corcoran! |
| |
Last night, we also stopped by the Corcoran for the seventh Annual Capitol Pecha Kucha night. Hosts and sisters Rouzita and Bita Vahhabaghai are here with Gaurav Mishra. Pecha Kucha was started in Japan in 2003 so young designers could meet and show their work, and is now popular at 110 locations worldwide.
| |
Pecha Kucha Night allows presenters to show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. Above is a favorite from Gaurav Mishra's presentation about his off-consumption experiment, in which he stopped spending for 11 months and gave away most of his belongings. The picture represents his new lifestyle.

| |
Also presenting their creative works: Eric Brewer, Ayodamola Okunseinde, and Adrian Loving of Dissident Display - Multimedia Design Studios, a DC studio that blends video, photography, typography, and interactive media to promote aspects of art in a multi-layered media production.

We snapped this of presenter Marielle Mariano, Chalk4Peace East Coast Coordinator, with John Aaron, project founder. Chalk4Peace began in 2003 in Arlington, and has spread across the US to Africa and Europe, providing a creative way for young artists to express their ideas about peace.

| Jesus Christ Superstar! |
| |
We loved the opening night of Jesus Christ Superstar on Tuesday at the Warner Theater. Ted Neeley, the legend behind Jesus for nearly 30 years, and James Delisco, as Judas, left us on the edge of our seats with their moving performances (and thanks to Joan Marcus, whose picture was better than ours). Ted told us "it's been an absolute honor and magnificent experience since the first day" and that he feels "something new in each performance." He met his wife on the 1972 movie set in Israel, and told us he doesn't know if it will be his last tour, but he owes everything he is to this wonderful project. Hurry: the show's only here through Sunday. |

| That's Good Stuff! |
| |

We sat down this week with Top Chef Chicago contestant Spike Mendelsohn, who has recently graced Capitol Hill with one of DC's tastiest burger joints, Good Stuff Eatery. Featuring mouth-watering burgers, fries (with red potatoes for sweetness) and milkshakes with homemade custard, Good Stuff isn't hard to miss at 303 Pennsylvania Ave. SE because of the massive line outside. Spike tells us he plans to open two more locations, in Dupont and Union Station. Next time, try his personal fave, Spike's Five Napkin: applewood bacon, cheese and fried egg on a brioche bun.
