Oscars!
|
|
| |
|
There were sooo many parties this weekend, we’ve decided that today we’ll show you pix from last night’s three Oscar parties we attended, but you’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to see pix from the rest of the weekend. Can you stand the suspense? First up, we went to the Hard Rock Café for Oscar Night DC.

This was a black-tie affair where guests bid on silent auction items while supporting the Red Cross – oh, and watching the Oscars. You might have caught it on ABC News at 11:00; Arch Campbell was filming. Here, event co-chairs Pamela Sorensen, Intertouch Media’s David Marra, and his girlfriend, Dana Anton, get ready to kick off the festivities.

Fairfax radiologist Jay Varma and Jackie Wright were dressed Bollywood style, which was even hipper when Slumdog Millionaire won everything; we loved the jewel on her forehead! With them is the night’s presenting sponsor, Microstrategy’s Michael Saylor, who’s been hosting great Oscars parties for years.

L2’s Rodrigo Garcia and host Kate Michael were dressed in their Oscar-worthy finest.

Next up, we were at a glam party at the home of Rick Rickertsen, Managing Partner of Pine Creek Partners, here with AOL’s Jimmy Lynn, and Octagon Sports President Phil De Picciotto. Between them, radiant in red, is Kate Roberts, founder of Five and Alive, who co-hosted the party to increase awareness of her organization’s efforts to prevent children from getting malaria and other diseases.

Our friend, DC Councilman Jack Evans, who just dashed over from the other party, can’t believe the gorgeous gal on the left, Andrea Johnson, is a mechanical engineer with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission who licenses nuclear reactors, while Jossie Ali of the Red Cross saves lives.

Former Microstrategy exec and serial entrepreneur Sid Banerjee, stands next to David Washington, who moved here from California to do public-private partnerships in the White House Government Liaison office. Next to him are the Carlyle Group’s Cedric Bobo with his wife Natasha, Quinn Omoto, and Paula Jenkins.

Polo player Ray Regan, who just agreed to sail 3000 miles from the Canary Islands to the Bahamas, stands with his girlfriend, CSC’s Lauren Kieler; the next time we take her picture, we hope it will include her left hand, which should be sporting a sparkly ring! Next to them: financial consultant Shamim Jawad, and her husband, the Ambassador from Afghanistan to the US, Said Jawad. He’s been in that post for five years and has published hundreds of articles.

Kristin Irish and real estate developer John Cecchi enjoy the bubbly provided by Moet & Chandon. Since it sponsors the Oscars broadcast, it decided this year for the first time that DC had become hip enough to to sponsor an Oscar party here. After trying our third variety, we decided that was a great idea.

Nadia and Mark Jenkins with Sherry Moeller, editor in chief of Capitol File. Mark is a celebrity trainer, and has worked with Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, and Diddy through his infitness.com. And we just thought he was naturally buff!

Our final Oscar party was hosted by the WFI at the Goethe Institute, with a red carpet, photo shoot, two big screens to watch, an open bar, and great munchies. Booz Allen Consultant Sheila Berry formerly with MicroStrategy (does it just seem like they’re everywhere?) is all smiles with friend Colleen Rooney.

The party’s host, WFI’s director, John Hanshaw, chats with DCPR’s Joel Greenberg.

Veterans Affairs’ Tressa Gill, U.S. Army’s Cary Cooper, and their friend from Atlanta, Anna Sinclair, toast the winners. We hope they had their money on Slumdog Millionaire, since there was a winner-takes-all Oscars pool.

The Meridian Institution’s Kevin Bryan stands with friends Kevin Roberts, Freedom House’s Elena Postnikova and Minority Investigative Counsel, Pablo Carrillo.
The Scene Bisnow reporters Kristina D’Ambrosio and Vanessa Meccarielli contributed to this issue.
