DC Scores!
| |
Last night we were on the scene for five fantastic events: a wedding preview, a feast, a talk with a famed movie producer, and a soccer-themed happy hour. But first we stopped by a Charity Date Auction as attendees went on bidding wars to win a date with some of DC’s hottest singles – all for a worthy cause, of course!

Ladies in red, gents in suits was the theme at Grand Central in Adams Morgan to benefit Pediatric HIV/AIDS Care. After two ladies kept escalating the bidding to go on his flying trapeze lesson and dinner date, Jeff Cook, a clerk for U.S. District Judge Urbina, took a breather with Charity Date Auction founder Donna Choi.

Taryn Fielder’s smile brought her luck on the auction block. Her dinner date, tour of the monuments for ten, and a table at the Shadow Room went for $1,050. Who were the lucky winners? We won’t tell. Here she poses with attorney France Hoang and Todd Mack.

Heather Looney came to support her good friend, and auctionee, Stephanie Clarke.

Hogan & Hartson’s Will Pridgen and Lauren Dougherty and USB’s Steve Whitman supported the cause by bidding on silent auction items. We don’t know what they bought, but we liked a Marc Jacobs bag, box seats at Carnegie Hall, and a private jet for eight to Las Vegas!

Last night we also went to Mate in Georgetown for the DC Scores Happy Hour. The non-profit’s executive director, Amy Nakamoto, is here with Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld, owner of Latin Concepts Restaurants, which will provide food for the group’s April 2009 Soccer Ball.

DCPR’s Joel Greenberg, with Daniel Lyons and Tino Angelo, stopped by after work for sushi and drinks and to learn more about the after-school program that emphasizes soccer and homework.

CBS Radio’s Michelle Goodman and NFL Players Association’s Steve Goodman, who said he can’t wait for the Soccer Ball again this year.

| Wedding Season! |
| |
Getting married? Why go to New York to get fashion ideas, when we have Crystal Couture right here! At Wedding Wednesday, we grabbed a glass of champagne and a cupcake from The Blushing Bakeshop, and watched models walk the catwalk. Here President of Crystal City BID, Angie Fox, in her wedding dress from 15 years ago, with Tranquilit’s eco-friendly designer, Kimberly Wilson and model Chanda, in a Tranquilit bridesmaid dress; it’s 95% organic bamboo and 5% spandex for the green bride.

Newly engaged Sara McCurdy and her fiancé came to the fashion show filled with music and flashing lights to get ideas for their special day and to take advantage of the complimentary curls from Elizabeth Arden’s Beau. Although they loved the lace bridal gown by French designer Monique Lhuillier, they decided to pass since it was $12,500.

The favorite gown of the night was from Nicole Miller.

Last night, we also checked out the new private dining room at the renowned restaurant. Webster Group chief Lynda Webster and Republican biggies Craig Fuller and Ed Gillespie smile after the lobster course.

Famed chef Patrick O’Connell told our group that this intimate space is called the ball room because George Washington once danced there.

Dessert: a checkerboard terrine of pistachio and white chocolate ice cream with blackberry sauce. Hungry?

Last night at Sixth and I syngagogue, Louis Stroller, the producer of such hits as Scarface and The Rock, shared lessons and memories with Washington Post film critic Desson Thomson. Proceeds from the event benefitted ORT, a worldwide education NGO. Who’d he call the nicest actors? Denzel Washington, Martin Lawrence, and Angeline Jolie. He called Oliver Stone “nuts,” although it sounded complimentary. The networking opportunity, organized by Ezra Weinblatt, was one Louis said he couldn’t pass up: “If someone out there has a deal, I’m interested.”

We’re not sure how this got left on the cutting room floor, but we’re putting it in due to popular demand.
