| |
| Ready for a little summer lovin' that doesn't include John Travolta and Olivia Newton John? Serco is pairing with CRM software maker Vovici to improve the lives of Army soldiers across the world. |
| |
|
| Cool(er) temps now allow us take pics outside, as we did yesterday with Serco Consultant for IMCOM Customer Management Services Pam Holloway. She tells us Serco utilizes Vovici's survey software to gather info from soldiers. It can be as simple as "Are we doing the right things (in terms of housing, roads, etc)?" The partnership's strength, she says, is capturing feedback and translating it into info program managers use to improve customer retention, while optimizing resources. "Before Vovici, we were using Excel spreadsheets to compile information. Bisnow has made its fair share of ridiculous Excel pie charts and can agree it's labor intensive. |

| Pam says the goal of the project is to make soldiers and their families feel like the Army is their home. As such, her team is made up almost entirely of veterans or family members of active duty soldiers, including a few with spouses currently in Afghanistan. "We take this personally," says Pam, an Army veteran, married to an Army officer. She, her husband, and two children know a bit about hard work: They own a gentleman’s farm south of Fredericksburg. One of their horses has even figured out a solution to this heat: "He loves grabbing the garden hose (with his teeth) to give himself, and everyone around him, a cool shower." |

Two GSA Senior Leaders Receive Awards for Support of Open Government
|
| |
|
|
| Two of GSA's senior leaders recently received awards from the Association for Federal Information Resource Management, for putting the principles of open government for citizens into action. David McClure, Associate Administrator, Office of Citizen Services and Information Technology, and Mary Davie, Assistant Commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service’s Office of Assisted Acquisition Services, were honored at the AFFIRM Leadership Awards luncheon.
David received the award for outstanding executive leadership in government-wide information resources management. Mary received the award for excellence in government information services for acquisition and procurement improvement and effectiveness. David joined GSA in August 2009, and his team fosters public engagement by using innovative technologies to connect citizens to government information and services.
Mary is responsible for overseeing the delivery of $3.5 billion in information technology and professional services products, services, and solutions to federal agencies worldwide. She has spearheaded the BetterBuy project, a joint initiative of the National Academy of Public Administration, the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council, and GSA. BetterBuy uses social media to receive suggestions and host discussions for improving the acquisition process.

| Great Minds |
| |
|
| Mindshare sort of sounds like a synonym for networking, so it was fitting last night when we joined Mindshare Alumni for just that at Chima in Tysons. Here's Consumer Electronics Association CEO Gary Shapiro and Mindshare founder Harry Glazer. Just 12 hours earlier, Gary was talking at our Association CEO roundtable, where he discussed fun things like the economy. And you can find some of his views on DC's strong economy today on the Huffington Post. |

| KAT Consultants' Kathy Penny, author Bob Wiedemer, New Horizon Wines' Christopher Parker, Cooley’s Katherine Ferguson, and MCLM's John Reardon. Bob is holding his book Aftershock, currently Amazon’s top selling financial book. It says the economic crisis has only begun. It must be interesting because it's already sold 100,000 copies. |

|
| FFV’s Rob Miller and MMV’s April Young. You may know Rob as one of the co-founders of Avectra, but after selling the company, he's now in the angel investing game. April is also a well-known investor and just made her 20th investment in the last 18 months and now has made 50 of more than $1 million. Who says the investing game has slowed down? |

| Zadby’s Beau Brewer, GroupLogic President Reid Lewis, and PointAbout’s Scott Shuy. After seeing a Google map project of New York's hottest start-ups while trolling the Internet, Reid decided to start one for the DC area with his Mindshare buddies. You can check out the map here and make additions. |

| Mobile Posse’s Jon Jackson and Mobomo’s Barg Upender. How’s this for finding good talent: Barg recruited his 12-year-old son, an entrepreneur-in-training, to handle making an iPhone app for a customer. The incentive? His son could keep whatever money was leftover, after paying the developers, or reinvest it in another project with Barg’s company. |

 |
| mPortal's DP Venkatesh with Ernst & Young's Erika Chambers and Kari Day. Last time we ran into DP, we learned that his company does work with ESPN and last night we learned some of the perks—like a trip to the ESPY awards. |
