RING THE BELL!

| Our next Breakfast & Schmooze: Hot Topics in Federal Spending, with Veterans Affairs CIO Roger Baker. Feb. 23. Fairview Park Marriott. Sign up now! |

| Congrats to one of the tech region’s longest serving top execs, ATS Corp CEO Ed Bersoff, who opened the market today to commemorate his latest achievement: His firm advanced from the pink sheet bulletin board of AMEX to a full listing based on bigger market cap. See our helpful red arrow below. |
| |
| Point of trivia that may clear up your confusion: The NYSE now owns the AMEX and they share facilities—and a bell. Of course, Ed’s no stranger to either New York or the market. The NYU PhD (and trustee) founded pioneering regional tech firm BTG in 1982, then took it public in 1994 and grew it to nearly $600 million in revenue doing things like IT for the Navy. A big success, it was sold to Titan in 2001 (then Titan to L-3 in 2006). So stay tuned. |

AGAIN WITH THE CLOUD
| |
We realize we write about the cloud a lot, but it's actually what everyone talks about. Today's culprit: Federal CIO Vivek Kundra, who this morning on an NVTC conference call said the government will be making a “major shift” to cloud solutions this year. He's also asked the CIOs at Treasury and DHS to lead the effort in consolidating the government’s more than 1,200 data centers. Now, if you'll excuse us, our C-L-O-U-D keys seem to have busted from overuse, which means the word "could" will not appear in this issue. Or could it?

| BIBA! |
| |
Also this morning, we were at Woolly Mammoth Theatre for Fedscoop’s first BIBA (Bring Your Own Bottl—wait, that’s Big Ideas Big Action) Conference on technology and innovation. Here's Fedscoop's Goldy Kamali, who teamed with iStrategy Labs on this event (expect another this fall) and WinMagic CSO Justin Nguyen.

NPR social media guy Andy Carvin, The Pink Line Project chief creative contrarian Phillippa Hughes, and an inflatable zebra. Andy says that during large news events, he doesn’t worry about getting NPR’s information online, rather trying to manage how it’s used once it gets there.

iStrategy Labs CEO Peter Corbett and an inflatable lion. (See a theme here?) And yes, Peter and the lion look alike. Peter advises doing your homework before starting a new project or business, using things like Google Insights, Google Ad Planner, Linkfluence, and Scout Labs.

Docutex CEO David Levine and Grotech’s Don Rainey. We’ve seen Don so much lately, we’re not sure who’s following who. It’s OK because we like talking football with him. He likes the Colts in a runaway, but “how can you not root for New Orleans?” Good question.

SATURDAY NIGHT IN BETHESDA
| |
Look who we ran into at the hopping Assaggi restaurant in Bethesda the other night: Air America CEO Bennett Zier and wife Angela. Yes, it looks like Air America is signing off, but Bennett’s one of the leading vets of the business who’s survived many a cycle. It was the first time for us at this so-called “mozzarella bar”; Bennett (though he’s been living in NY during the week) and Angela are regulars. The duo is also kept nourished by Angela’s own Cupcakes on the Run, available at Sprinkles in Potomac Village, which tied in one recent contest with no less than G’Town Cupcake for best in town.
