DoE CIO:
Full Bore on Cloud

If you like today's article on the DoE CIO, you'll love our Dec 15 event with the DoE CFO. If nothing else, it comes earlier in the alphabet. Come meet Steven Isakowitz, at our next Breakfast & Schmooze. Sign up!

Our headline says it all: This morning, DoE CIO Tom Pyke said the agency will be using “the full extent” of options on GSA’s cloud computing dashboard.

Two other sound bites: The agency is piloting the use of Google apps in government, and pushing everything green. All agency computers are turned off at 9pm (unless someone is working on them, of course). We snapped him at the podium at INPUT’s Executive Breakfast this morning at the Tysons’ Ritz:

Oh, and Tom mentioned the $37 billion in stimulus the agency received on top of its nominal $27 billion budget. Perfect segue to a shameless plug: Next Tuesday, we’re hosting the man guiding those dollars, DoE CFO Steve Isakowitz for breakfast. Sign up!

INPUT analyst Brian Haney

INPUT analyst Brian Haney says DoE’s roughly $9 billion contract providing management and operation of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory will come up for recompete in March. He adds that DoE’s IT budget is growing 2.5% per year, and at $2 billion, it’s one of the largest of the civilian agencies.

E&Y Helps Soldiers

Ernst & Young's Kevin Virostek presents a check to Armed Forces Foundation's Monika and Joe Finch
Earlier this week, the great folks at Ernst & Young donated $10k (visual proof above) to the Armed Forces Foundation, every penny of which came from EY employees. The money will assist troops at Walter Reed and Bethesda. Above left, EY's Greater Washington Office managing partner Kevin Virostek presents the check to AFF reps Monika and Joe Finch at the firm’s holiday reception, where employees made care packages for wounded soldiers.

Better Than a Sleigh Bell?

The local winners of Deloitte’s Fast 500 program were in New York earlier this week to ring the closing bell at NASDAQ. The list of the 500 fastest growing companies includes technology, media, telecom, life sciences, and clean tech, based on percentage revenue growth over the last five years. Thanks to NASDAQ for the pic. Oh, and if you remember Tuesday’s issue, you’ll appreciate Deloitte Southeast managing partner Gary Tabach wearing a red positive striped tie.
