| Healthcare IT is this year’s it girl, so Agilex chose a good time to spearhead a big, and important, project with NHIN Connect. |
| |
We sat down with Agilex healthcare president Larry Albert and newest VP (former HHS CIO) Melissa Chapman, who say Agilex is on a team of companies building a portal that will allow more than 20 federal agencies to instantly share health info. “Instead of calling 10 different people, an employee at, say, HHS can log in and get everything they need,” Melissa says.

Larry worked under Bob LaRose (uber successful entrepreneur, for those new in town) as a healthcare gun, running the practices at Integic and Advanced Technology. Melissa, also a former acting CIO at FDA, joined the company from GD. She’s a movie buff and says she can sometimes tell a director by how a scene is shot. (Her pick for flick of year? Inglorous Bastards.) Larry has two counterbalanced hobbies: He loves to eat, and he’s a fitness buff.

Tim Dowd at DC Rainmakers
| |
Two of our friends got together this morning: Nancy McCarthy, in red, hosted INPUT CEO Tim Dowd, center, at her monthly invite-only roundtable breakfast. We snapped them with Albo & Oblon partner Declan Leonard, Helios HR CEO Kathy Albarado, TSI CEO Marta Wilson, and A&O partner Seth Berenzweig, whose name we can now spell without looking it up. Tim jokes we’ve had so many pictures of him lately we should rename the publication Timnow.

Some great Recovery Act info from Tim and INPUT: The government is spending incredibly quickly ($3.6 billion per week) and will have unloaded $350 billion by the end of this fiscal year. Tim also says federal agencies have significantly improved their use of fixed-price contracts and the percentage of contract awards made to small business, although they’re still struggling to accurately characterize how many jobs the stimulus is creating. (Eg, we hear this breakfast created a table full of jobs in DC Congressional District 00R2D2.)

Tip from Nancy: If you wear a striped tie, point the stripes upward, like a positive graph on the stock market. It will draw attention toward a person’s face and give a positive impression.

| |
Here’s one guy who buys into the philosophy. In fact, Nancy says if President Obama wears a striped tie, it’s always moving upward, including in his three debates against John McCain. Another quick tip from Nancy: If you’re having a bad day, sing along to a little rock music before going into your next meeting, as a pick me up. (Addendum: Preferably in your car and not your cubicle.)
