THIN, RUGGED, GREEN

Our Wednesday breakfast ("Where do Women Stand?") is sold out. That means we've reached capacity at even our new, bigger venue, Sequoia Restaurant. But we're thinking of making these get togethers a regular monthly series. Speaker suggestions?

Our headline reads like something from a bad Match.com profile, but it’s actually what Marine Corps CIO George Allen says he’s looking for in mobile devices.

Marine Corps CIO George Allen at AFCEA event

We joined George in celebrating a belated Marine Corps birthday (Ooh-rah!) on Friday at AFCEA Nova’s luncheon. There were so many Marines, we wondered who was left in Quantico. George says he needs industry help (i.e. call him pronto if you can do any of this) in creating mobile devices built on a thin client, with applications ready to go, that can save power and “be run over by a tank."

WIT a Hit

Bodega East’s Kelly Moore, Excitations’ Nancy Lamberton, Helios HR CEO Kathy Albarado, and Paras Productions’ Diane Paras at WIT event

On Friday, we joined Women in Technology for its annual Heroines in Technology awards dinner at the Reston Hyatt. Some of the XX-chromosomed stars: Bodega East’s Kelly Moore, Excitations’ Nancy Lamberton, Helios HR CEO Kathy Albarado, and Paras Productions’ Diane Paras. Kelly says WIT will be accepting applications for its mentor-protégé program for another week, while Kathy will begin accepting applications for her annual Apollo Awards in a few weeks. No, you can't reuse your essay for both.

Grotech Ventures czar Don Rainey and wife Bridget at WIT event

Grotech Ventures czar Don Rainey and wife Bridget. Don says Grotech just held its annual meeting with investors and “the outlook was a little better than last year, to say the least.” And congrats to Bridget: the mother of six just graduated from law school!

Ted Haddad, Booz Allen’s Sue Hoffman, CGI’s Sally Turner, The Women’s Centers Vicki Kirkbride, and The Process Pro president Marguerete Lute

Ted Haddad, Booz Allen’s Sue Hoffman, CGI’s Sally Turner, The Women’s Centers Vicki Kirkbride, and The Process Pro president (we love alliteration) Marguerete Luter, a former WIT prez. If you need to talk with Sally, do it quick: She’s off to Bologna at the end of the week.

Serena Software's Dave Dantus

Transparency is in, but only 43% of government agencies who responded to a Serena Software survey are prepared to meet reporting requirements. Dave Dantus, head of federal sales at the 30-year-old California-based BPM application developer, tells us Serena is releasing today (funny how that works out) a suite of applications for government reporting. It'll focus on information assurance vulnerability, internal financial control, automate processing of employee time-off, and simplify risk tracking and auditing. We can't wrap our head around that vocabulary, but we do like the idea of the government being audited instead of us.

“We’ve seen that senior government officials are dead serious about transparency,” says Dave. He recently sat down with Federal CIO Vivek Kundra and reports he’s a fan of the platform.
