Remember our Funniest Summer Picture contest? We have a winner! George Kreis, SVP of Tompkins Builders, who submitted the following picture and explanation:
"Our summer trip this year was cruising the coast of Maine on our boat. On board were my wife, two kids and the dog. We were all feeling pretty good about ourselves and our boat until we docked at the marina in Bar Harbor. Our boat is this side of the pier on the right. As you can see, it's slightly smaller than the other boats. My 14-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter quizzed me about what I was not doing at work that the owners of those other boats were. I told them that those other boats were owned by developers, brokers or subcontractors–certainly not general contractors."
HarVest Bank of Maryland CEO Jack Hollerbach took a Baltic cruise (with his best gal Kathy Corcoran). Here outside the museums in St. Petersburg, he needed to get on the subway, and looks a little chagrined realizing he can't read Russian.

LandAmerica hosted a breakfast seminar at the Capital Hilton Thursday on topics like ALTA policy enhancements. (We'll pretend we know what that is.) Above, LandAm's Dennis Vendetti and Bill Gessner, and Womble Carlyle's John Hagner. Panelists such as Robin Alsop, Candace Chazen, Tom Dunbar, Stuart Levin, and Sally Webb brought the subjects to life.
Also at the LandAm seminar, Venable's Jennifer Bruton and LandAm's Stuart Levin. Stu said his days of being a Zoo tour guide (check him out Thursdays 10am-4pm in the Elephant House) have gotten a bit more exciting now that he's taught two of the three elephants to wave to him. DC CREW gathered at the Capitol Hilton Thursday for a panel on "Women Making It Happen." Above, DBI's Kathryn Ciliberti, DLA's Betsy Karmin, and new CREW president Helen Haerle of Quadrangle. Helen just got back from her 23rd European biking trip. This time she did 500 miles across the Belgian countryside. CREW is gearing up for its annual awards ceremony October 24. Studley's Lois Zambo will be honored for lifetime achievement.
Lunchtime panelists: Forest City's Kamilah Parker McAfee, Monument's Amy Phillips, Davis' Ruthie Edmondson, and Forest City's Vanessa Lopez-Isa. What's Ruthie's secret to success in business? Two things: timely decision making and communication. Rats…we've always hoped it would just be luck.
