Tips From a Former Gov't Exec
| Another great economic breakfast briefing from Cardinal Bank: Hear from Britton Busby, economist from Lord Abbett. Tues. Nov 10, 8am. More info |

| With government spending continuing to soar, we sought out Mark Boster, COO at Platinum Solutions and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Information Resources Management (a CIO before the term existed) for insight on how to sell to the feds. |

First tip: Meetings with the CIO are overrated: "Most of them are involved in sweeping agency policy and avoid the nitty gritty of specific projects and source selection." He recommends searching out the CIO’s deputies or program managers to make real progress.

More advice: High-ranking gov officials don’t want to hear that you can do it all, they want to hear what you can do for them. Do your homework, identify specific issues, offer solutions, and note where you've done the work before. And yes, that’s a bunch of Harley Davidson patches behind Mark, who's ridden in 41 of the 50 states. (He’s missing Alaska and Hawaii and a couple in the Midwest.)

And congrats to Platinum Solutions on its 10-year anniversary. The Reston-based company, which specializes in software design mostly for government and law enforcement, held a soiree last Thursday to mark its decade in business. Pictured is president Adam Rossi, who runs the company with his wife/CEO Laila, speaking at the event.

Earlier this week, our friends at SpeakerBox held a seminar at the Tower Club on how online content marketing can lead to government business. SpeakerBox CEO Elizabeth Shea threw around some math: SEO + CONTENT + SOCIAL MEDIA = LEADS. "All of these have to intersect to be effective." The speakers: Market Connections CEO Lisa Dezzutti, SearchMojo’s Janet Driscoll Miller, Elizabeth, Speakerbox's Stephanie Stadler, and ScienceLogic’s Julia Lim.
