| Control $140 billion in spending. Interested? That’s what the Army’s General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) is expected to manage come 2012, according to Army PEO EIS Gary Winkler. Oh, by the way, he's keynoting our Federal IT Breakfast & Schmooze this Tuesday. Sign up! |

Did you know Gary was on the weight lifting team at Virginia Tech? We love stuff like that. GFEBS is being rolled out for testing at various sites and earlier this month completed its first transaction at Ft. Jackson in South Carolina. When complete, the system will have more than 79K users at 200 global sites and gobble up roughly 80 legacy systems. Which cities are next? You’ll have a chance to ask at our event on Tuesday.

TWTRCON!
|
| |
 |
|
This morning we dropped by TWTRCON at the Grand Hyatt, though we’re not held to 140 characters when reporting it. (Some of you are probably still there. We miss you already!) Here's oneforty.com’s Laura Fitton, the NHL’s Michael DiLorenzo, Chick Downtown’s Amy Reed, and USA Today’s Brian Dresher. Oh, and there’s a surprise at the end of this issue.

Over 200 Twitterers made it to this session. Michael says the NHL is coming up with a Twitter policy for players, but unlike other pro sports, it’s not in hockey players’ DNA to self-promote. Michael's trying to get them to see it as a way to connect with fans and explain life in the NHL. Tip from Brian: A retweet is the highest compliment on Twitter, so retweet others and they’re likely to follow you. (We'll be checking Twitter Search later to see who's retweeting this.)

Wall Street Journal’s Alan Murray says that Twitter is the fastest growing social network when it comes to bringing readers to the paper’s site. “It’s becoming a great news filter as people share their favorite stories with all their followers,” says Alan, noting the WSJ site gets 25 million hits a month, with more than half from referrals.

Your surprise: Craigslist founder Craig Newmark. It’s been a whole week since we've seen him, but one interesting thing he’s up to is pushing DonorsChoose.org, a site that raises money for students, but allows donors to pick which projects to fund. Stephen Colbert gives out the company’s card to everyone that appears on his show.
