| It’s not like JetBlue flies to Kabul, so when senior staff from the Export-Import Bank had a meeting in Afghanistan, Chief Acquisition Officer Mark Pitra had to rent a military plane to get everyone there: “We do the mundane purchasing like everyone else but also have some real unique challenges. |

How many other Contracting Officers get to contract for repossessing large commercial aircraft like Boeing 747s? Mark is also supporting the agency on “Exports Live,” an eight-city tour informing small businesses about the bottom line benefits of exporting goods to other countries. Mark was born in East LA and grew up on a cattle ranch in Oregon, before enlisting in the Navy—“forced into procurement,” he jokes. After doing procurement for the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash. and Space and Missile Defense Command in Colorado Springs, he came to Ex-Im Bank In January '99. Outside of work, Mark likes to ride motorcycles with his wife and fish (he caught some four-foot Rock Fish monster in the Chesapeake).

This weekend, we joined more than 600 local luminaries, including a bunch of techies, at the Red Cross Fire and Ice Ball at the Mellon Auditorium. Pictured here: (Back) Tiffany Circle’s Neena Shenoy, Chairman of the Board Suresh Shenoy, Red Cross Prez Linda Mathes, Sudhaker Kesavan, IBM VP Chris Carlson, Gala Co-Chair Teresa Carlson, speaker CBS’s Kimberly Dozier. Front: Beth Chiarelli, General Peter Chiarelli, Tiffany Circle’s Dale Shaeffer, and Gala Co-Chair Jim Sheaffer. Big congrats to Teresa and Jim for working so hard and raising so much money and awareness. (Find more great pics in today's issue of the Scene.)

The FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, but our friends at GlobalNet just completed the GIFA World Cup (that would be GlobalNet Internationale de Foosball). And your champs: DBA Vijay Pasupuleti and Help Desk Technician Bret Anderson (with juggling skills, no less) show off their trophies.
