Breaking News: Top Guys to Change at SAIC and BAE
Here’s a great opportunity to help our wounded veterans. The 2nd annual Yellow Ribbon Fund golf tourney is July 6, at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. It’s seeking foursomes and sponsors. E-mail or call Mark Robbins, 240-223-1180 with any questions.

| $11 billion a year defense giant SAIC, a third of its 45,000 employees in this area, looks like it’s getting a new CEO: Walt Havenstein, who resigned today as CEO of Rockville-based BAE Systems (and COO of its Europe based BAE parent), according to late reports in the Wall Street Journal. (Eh, we could have scooped them, but we think it’s important to give hard copy an occasional day in the sun.) |
| |
Walt joined BAE in 2000, when it purchased Sanders, the Lockheed company where he was president. He would replace Ken Dahlberg, who himself replaced legendary founder Bob Beyster in 2003. Headquartered in San Diego, it’s the ninth largest defense contractor, with longtime presence and influence here. Goodness, at one time you’ll remember it even owned a booming Network Solutions (then chaired by Mike Daniels, head of our advisory board).

| Retired Marine Corps four star Tony Zinni (one-time CENTCOM Commander and a leading choice for Ambassador to Iraq) has been appointed chairman and acting CEO at BAE, where he already serves on the board. See, the Supreme Court's not the only place with the exciting changes. Even our suburbs get in on the action. |

The tech crowd once again proved its eagerness to rush into the future by declaring an Entrepreneur of the Year . . . in mid-June. We dusted off the penguin suit on Thursday for the Ernst & Young awards dinner at the Tysons Ritz. We found Federal CTO Aneesh Chopra and DubMeNow CEO Manoj Ramnani in a picture that will surely end up on Manoj’s desk (and Aneesh’s in a few years, once Manoj continues to revolutionize the mobile business cards). While his boss famously favors the Blackberry, we hear Aneesh is actually an iPhone guy, although he does carry a Blackberry for work.

More than 600 packed the Ritz. Winners included: Cvent CEO Reggie Aggarwal, Emergent BioSolutions CEO Fuad El-Hibri, K2M CEO Eric Major, EagleBank CEO Ronald Paul, Stratford University’s Richard Shurtz, Modern Technology Solutions CEO Philip Soucy, and Colfax CEO John Young.

STG International CEO Michelle Lee and her sisters (OK, daughters) Allison and Kristen Chou and husband Dr. Dan Chou. You all know Michelle (who we’re interviewing next week, so send us questions), but her husband is one of the area’s top anesthesiologists.

Bank of America’s Sean Hoyer and Focus Technology's Shannon Jameson. Shannon tells us Focus just won a Maryland CATS II that allows it to do IT work for any state agency or department. (Despite the contract's acronym, it’s not limited to the Animal Control Dept.)

| Goldman Sachs’ Joe Hall and Ernst & Young’s Rene Salas. Rene was director of the regional Entrepreneur of the Year program this year. Some of the local winners will be eligible for the national program held in November in Palm Springs. Speaking of warm locales, we hear Rene is already on his way to somewhere tropic. |
