Big news this morning as the great acquirer in the sky, QinetiQ North America, announced it’s purchasing Rosslyn-based Cyveillance in an all-cash transaction, pending Exon-Florio approval.

We took this picture last summer, but Cyveillance CEO Panos Anastassiadis is smiling even bigger today. His 140-person cyber intelligence firm, founded in 1997, protects clients’ brand names and intellectual property from online evil doers. Panos has run the company since 2001 and garnered investment from all stars Lazard, NEA, BlackRock, and ABS Capital. (Your publisher is proud to have chaired Cyveillance's advisory board for several years earlier this decade.)

| This picture was snapped an hour ago of Cyveillance employees. They'll become part of the QinetiQ Mission Solutions Group run by ex-DoD official Steve Cambone, but will be staying in current offices. “We’re accepting ideas on how to celebrate,” Panos told us. We have a feeling the renowned chef will cook something up. |

Here’s QinetiQ CEO Duane Andrews, who told us when we were doing our Power 50 List a few months ago that, after originally building the $1 billion American arm of the British IT giant through acquisitions, his company would remain a player in the M&A market this year, although more strategically to complement the company’s intelligence, DoD and DHS offerings.

| THE KATHY HAS LANDED! |
| |
Former NVTC Chair, Landmark Systems co-founder, and globetrotting sailor Kathy Clark has a new gig: CEO of DC-based online tutoring firm SmartThinking. The announcement was made this morning, obviously a bumper crop of announcements due to all the recent rain. Congrats to a friend many of us in this community have known for many years—well, since she was even younger than she is today!

| McConnell International |
| |
We went to the swank Willard Office Building to meet McConnell International’s newest executive consultant Howard Stern, far right, with John Osthaus, Kris Marcy and John Sandy. Howard (who we presume got a conflict of interest waiver from Sirius Radio) joins the company with Dennis Szymanski, whom you may remember as the former Chief of Staff to the CIO of the IRS. We know this Howard Stern’s heard all the jokes; so we’ll just note he’s also an experienced government salesman/marketer specializing in HHS, DoD Health Systems and VA.

We crashed an executive meeting and got the whole McConnell gang for a picture. So what are these guys joining? We thought you’d never ask. McConnell consults with companies entering the federal space, using the team’s eons of experience as high-ranking government officials. “Our goal is to help companies find and win the best government work for what they offer and in turn that helps the government – and the people – get the most for their money,” says President Brad King, who is the guy wearing a tie and no jacket in the middle back row of the picture.

| Inside MAVA |
| |
Yesterday more than 30 executives from early-through-expansion stage companies met with CapitalOne CEO Nigel Morris at MAVA’s Fast Track Seminar as a lead up to Capital Connection later this month. No Nigel in this pic, but Valhalla’s Gene Richers (who gave attendees feedback on their 8-minute business pitch), Webs.com CEO Haroon Mokhtarzada, Clarabridge CEO Sid Banerjee, and Acuity Mobile CEO Gregg Smith.
