Small. Big. Doesn't matter—we love awards! Last night, we were at the McLean Hilton as SECAF (Small and Emerging Contractors Advisory Forum) held its inaugural Awards Gala, honoring the best little guys, who might someday grow into the next Lockheed.

GSA Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Technology Services Mike Sade with SECAF Chairman and INDUS CEO Shiv Krishnan. Mike's busy with the recent awarding of Alliant Small Business contracts and Ed O'Hare taking over the GSA reins from retiring John Johnson. Mike and Ed are actually both from Dundalk, MD. "We always joke how two guys from the same small town in Maryland, who majored in music and political science, got to be running one of the largest technology outfits in the federal government," says Mike (the poli sci major; we hear Ed plays sax).

SpeakerBox Communications CEO Elizabeth Shea, Aronson Capital Partners' managing partner Larry Davis and Helios HR CEO Kathy Albarado. Larry, an uber-dealmaker, tells us his company closed its fourth of the year yesterday as SENTEL Corporation acquired 24/7 Solutions. Larry has three boys, including a 15-year-old son. "Two are in college, so I've got one more to go." Oh, and don't miss Helios' Apollo Awards June 5, which recognize local companies that promote a culture of continuous learning.

Invertix COO Craig Parisot, Equis SVP Cathy Jones, and KippsDeSanto's Pack Fancher. Craig says Invertix just received its 15th patent—this one focusing on a new kind of antenna that yields significant benefits in size, cost, power and bandwidth. No wonder they have so many contracts with NSA and saw 200% growth last year. (Craig expects another 200% this year.) Craig's sad to see spring, considering he's an avid snowboarder.

We just thought these table decorations were cool, kind of like the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz, but blue.

Venable's Rob Burton (who says he loves how he looks in our pictures), Aronson's Lexy Kessler, and Jones Day's Andrew Sherman. Rob and Lexy tell us they're busy with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Government Contracting Network (GovConNet), which promotes Maryland as a place for government contractors. They're hosting a procurement conference on May 13 featuring speakers Jan Frye from Veterans Affairs, Casey Coleman and David Drabkin from GSA, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen.

DIAMOND Marketing's Fred Diamond with Administaff's Susan Groter, and Focus Technology Consulting's Shannon Jameson. Perhaps this morning you saw Fred's buddy Hector Velez, EVP of HireStrategy, hosting University of Michigan business professor Dr. David Ulrich at the McLean Hilton to talk about creating leadership brand in companies.

How's this for timing? Women In Technology also happened to be holding a get-together at the Hilton last night where panelists discussed the present and future of service oriented architecture. Pictured here: Citizant President Alba Aleman, David Linthicum, founder of SOA consulting firm David S. Linthicum LLC, Microsoft Federal Civilian Government Business CTO Susie Adams, NASA/Goddard CIO Linda Cureton, Citizant's David Kelly and WIT President Sue Liblong.
David Stegon loves acronyms so much he's going to ask the boss to rename this publication TBWPMFTEEAAEWLT, which stands for "Tech Bisnow: Washington's People Magazine for Tech Executives, Entrepreneurs and Anyone Else Who Loves Technology ." Send better ones and story ideas to David@Bisnow.com
