Last Night's Fed 100 Gala
|
|

Big shout out to the Children’s Inn Charity Ball on April 4! Combine the Mayflower’s sophistication with a Monte Carlo Casino. Dinner and dancing, too. Support children undergoing life-saving experimental treatment at NIH. Tables still available, click here.

There were so many big names at last night's Federal Computer Week Federal 100 Gala at the Tysons Ritz, we'll just jump right into it.

Anne Armstrong, right, president of 1105 Media (FCW, GCN, Washington Technology, and FOSE), hosted the evening, here with former Rep. (now Deloitte guru) Tom Davis and former EPA CIO Molly O'Neill. Anne pointed out to us that this being the 20th anniversary dinner, 2,000 great Feds have been feted over the years. We hesitate to do the math on the number of attendees (1000 last night). As for Molly, a political appointee who retired on January 20, she tells us she's thinking about returning to the work force around May. Maybe after she catches up on her sleep, she'll come to her senses.

We're not sure if the packed house was there for the awards, the filet, or comedian Kathleen Madigan. We're guessing all three.

IBM's Anne Altman, Accenture's Rob Thomas, and Anne's other half Xavier Alire. Anne tells us she's happy running IBM's System Z mainframe, and business is booming with companies looking to cut costs with virtualization. At next sighting, she and Xavier will be a little tan: They just booked a trip to Aruba.

Recently retired OMB E-Gov administrator Karen Evans, Potomac Forum President Arthur Chantker, Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) staffer Eric Hopkins, and OMB's Mike Howell, who apparently sees something important off to the side. Hats off to Karen who brought her son as a date.

DoD Deputy CIO Dave Wennergren and Robin Gilmore. We caught Dave mid-salad, so we didn't have much time to talk; but, he addressed IAC last week and preached the gospel of Web 2.0 and admits to posting on Intellipedia, the government's collaborative data sharing system.

|
Nuclear Regulatory Commission CIO Darren Ash, DoD's Prashant Gaur, and Vistronix's Tricia Iverson. Darren tells us the 30-year anniversary of Three Mile Island is Saturday, and the NRC is holding educational and training seminars at the site to stop something like that from happening again.

That important guy in the middle is Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Dr. Ward Casscells, an early advocate of public access defibrillation, telemedicine, and electronic health records. He's joined by Military Health Systems' Ellen Embry, Office of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Health Protection & Readiness Programs Acting Director (but his mother calls him) Tommy Morris, and Vangent's Gary Klein and Jerry Ambrosh.

Cisco's Brad Boston, Robin Elias (in red) and Marty Edwards (right) with General Counsel's Dondi Serio and Unisys' Michael Saunders. Brad was one of the honorees last night for working with the Marine Corps and Army to set up HD video at bases in Fallujah and Kirkurk. It was linked to screens at Wal-Marts near Camp Pendleton and Fort Drum to help soldiers see their families.

Capgemini's Evelyn Gallego-Haag and David McGill surround Topside Consulting's John Okay, who you remember as Deputy Commissioner of GSA's Federal Technology Service. John tells us he's shoulder-deep in helping his clients find stimulus dollars as well as rooting for Michigan State to win the NCAA Tournament. David tells us Capgemini is likely to name new board members in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

The SRA gang: CEO Stan Sloane, Ron Frazier, Fed 100-winner Amanda Post, Christa Edwards and Sean Hoskins. Amanda's winning project involved providing intel to law enforcement agencies, so, sadly, she's sworn to secrecy. Ron gets our Employee of the Month Award. When we asked what he did for fun, he answered "Work at SRA!" Note, CEO Stan is right next to him.

GSA Director of USA Services E-Gov Program Stuart Willoughby, with wife Linda, flank Digital Government Institute President Mike Smoyer. Stuart says GSA is improving citizen engagement with 1-800-FED-INFO, a toll free number for questions about government agencies, programs, benefits, or services. For questions about your NCAA pool, ask Linda: She picked Memphis to win.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Mary Agnes Laureno, in blue, with the Vangent team: Joanne Sampson, Eileen Dougherty and James Gordon. Mary tells us she won her Fed 100 award for setting up the claims info call center for Medicaid & Medicare clients, but she still finds time to be a busy soccer mom.
Look for us back at it today at AFCEA-Belvoir's PEO EIS Industry Day. Send story ideas to David@Bisnow.com.
