Not to drop names, but we had lunch today with Michael Dell. Oh, yes, there were those other 735 guests of the NVTC at the McLean Hilton. Michael's message? "The stimulus package will be a small band-aid on a large wound if America cannot compete in the global market place."

We snapped this of Michael a couple hours ago with NVTC head Bobbie Kilberg. Random notes on what he told the crowd: Everyone talks about Asia, but there are also booming economies in North Africa and the Mideast. People usually go online three years after they get their first phone, and the screen size of computers and telephones will get bigger. "The size of laptop screens has actually grown, because instead of being small and portable people want to be able to see more information at a given time." Government should invest heavily in education. Countries with low corporate taxes usually flourish.

Fun fact: A number of Michael's current and former employees own a row of homes in Austin along a set of cliffs overlooking the Colorado River that locals call "The Dellionaires." And we thought that was a '50s doo-wop group.

EDS VP Andy McCann and SVP Dennis Stolkey (#7 on the Bisnow Power 50) with ACS EVPs Joe Doherty and Thomas Davies. Andy tells us EDS just won a $176 million contract from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services awarded to administer Part A and Part B Medicare claims payments for health care providers in the Northeast. Dennis tells us he was rooting for the Cardinals to upset the Steelers, but his heart belongs to Dallas.

Microsoft Public Sector head Teresa Carlson (#12 on the Bisnow Power 50) and Venable's Rob Burton. Teresa tells us she's busy working on the transition, but will also be hosting a bunch of Microsoft muckety-mucks in the area this month. Teresa is busy rooting for her beloved Kentucky Wildcats, but spotted potential new rival Bob Knight (interested in coaching at Georgia) at a recent Army football game. And Rob's just not a stand-in for this picture: He recently retired as Deputy Administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy.

CSC's David Booth with CGI's Peter Ihrig and Donna Morea (who serves as NVTC President) and CSC North American Public Sector President Jim Sheaffer. Jim is in the middle of moving to a different house in Bethesda, so if you have a pick-up truck, give him a call.
David Stegon forgot to ask Michael about the W- key that constantly sticks on his Dell computer. Story ideas: David@Bisnow.com.
