Movin’ Up

A salute to great sponsor McGuireWoods and its real estate team. Partner Mark Viani and associate Ken Wire just got certified as LEED Professionals. The firm has 20 real estate and land use professionals in its Tysons, DC, and Baltimore offices, who serve leading clients throughout the Greater Washington area. More info.

Seems like just yesterday Vornado threw that great party at the Corcoran for 1999 K (it was May 8, 2007) and that it announced the coup that Mayer Brown would occupy it (October 12, 2007). Goodness, how buildings grow up. Mayer Brown moves in Sept 1, and we were lucky enough to get the first outsider look inside.

We snapped this of Mayer Brown Space Committee chair Stuart Pergament and DC partner-in-charge Mark Ryan flanking Gensler principal Mariela Buendia-Corrochano, who oversaw interior design. (Helmut Jahn was architect, Davis did the base building, HITT is interior contractor.) Mayer Brown leased the whole 245k SF, is occupying 202k, and subleasing the rest (through CB’s Patt Marr). They’re consolidating from their current locations of 140k SF at 1909 K and 30k SF at Lafayette Center; hats off for impecabble timing: Their other leases expire August 31. If you want to see more, we’ll be devoting today’s issue of Legal Bisnow to a full tour inside as part of our series on Coolest Law Firm Cribs.

KATTEN GOING REALLY GREEN

We don’t mean our subhead just environmentally, but out the windows as well. We took this picture yesterday, so we guarantee it’s real, but doesn’t it look like a watercolor? Law firm Katten just celebrated its first anniversary at 2900 K Street in Georgetown, and here real estate partner Wendy Fields points out to us where some of her colleagues sit along Rock Creek at lunch time. Gensler did the interior design; Rand did the construction. (Watch for more on Katten’s office in our Coolest Cribs series in Legal Bisnow.)

LAST NIGHT AT 22 WEST

We stopped by high style 22 West last night (across from the Ritz, on, you guessed it, 22nd Street) for a broker party showcasing newly designer-furnished model condos. Of course, we found the building’s developer, Anthony Lanier of EastBanc, left, here with director of sales Mei-Mei Venners, TTR Sotheby’s Mary Fox, and Washington Fine Properties president Tom Anderson. Anthony tells us he was just in Cairo where his daughter has been taking squash lessons the last three summers. (Did you know—according to Anthony—Egypt is the top squash playing country in the world?)

We snapped this of one of those dramatic corner units you see jutting into a triangular point as you’re driving west on M Street toward G’Town. It’s even more dramatic from the inside.

KEENFest

We stopped by the rooftop terrace of the new W Hotel across from Treasury for a cocktail reception sponsored by Jones Lang LaSalle as it raises funds for KEEN, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now, a warm up to bigger events later this year. Here are Envision’s Diana Horvat, CBRE’s Sherry Cushman and JLL’s Amy Bowser. The KEENFest  is October 29 at Bethesda North Marriott. More info

And JLL’s Steve Collins and Matt Coursen and DRI Development Services’ Chris Spitz.

Those of you who came to our New Washington IV know there were some giveaways by our fantastic exhibitors. Here, Eric Wendler of Grant Thornton-Baltimore was the lucky winner of the WILLEM

August on the Etesian dining and Caballero club chairs they had on display. See more at www.willemsmith.com
