Congrats, Jack!

Head to Adams Morgan club District tonight for its Fashion Stars charity event: Fashion show, silent auction, and surprise celebrity musical performance (and if you're there from 9-10 p.m., a $20 donation will get you complimentary Red Bull and vodka for the hour). More info.

Last night we stoppd by Café Milano to wish Councilman Jack Evans good luck at his bachelor party. He’s getting married September 18 to Michelle Siever.

Toasting Jack were Lockhart Companies EVP Bill Jarvis; the party’s host, attorney Bill Hall, who joined Venable this month, and who also hosted Jack’s 1994 bachelor party (we trust this is the last); Jack Evans; Video Sevices’ and (apparently even more important in Jack’s history—we don’t ask questions) the DJ from Bottle & Cork, Joe Bak; WTOP’s political analyst Mark Plotkin; Colonial Parking’s Rusty Lindner; Nationals VP Gregory McCarthy; Akin Gump’s Terry Lynam; and Greenstein Delorme’s Bill Casano, who was Jack’s Pitt law school classmate. (We feel really bad we couldn’t fit Alan Bubes into the picture, since his neice Cara interned for us, and we’re hoping she’ll work for us when she graduates.) Being an apolitical publication, we won’t tell you what the buttons say.

Hello New York!

The Scene Bisnow launched yesterday in the Big Apple with a pic we snapped of singer and designer Jessica Simpson at the Project Runway design competition at the New York Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center. Meet Our Sponsor:

Moby Dick House of Kabob!

We met Moby Dick founder Mike Daryoush at his Dupont Circle location (one of 15) and snapped this pic early morning before the lunch rush—hence the empty tables. Starting 20 years ago in Bethesda, he focuses on healthy, lean meat. The menu’s loaded with kabobs, sandwiches, and salads. Opening next year is a new Capitol Hill restaurant, Moby Dick Grill at 8th and Penn SE, their first to offer alcohol. As if the kabobs weren’t enough to bring us back! They recently launched catering for corporate and private events. (We tried it and recommend it.) More info.

Cirque!

Cirque du Soleil returned to DC yesterday for its breathtaking show “Ovo,” a journey through a colorful insect ecosystem, at The Plateau at National Harbor. It’s an incredible performance from the décor, costumes, and tight rope to the trapeze and jaw-dropping acrobatics. Non-stop cheering echoed until the cast took its final bow.

We ran into Dr. Alex Naini and Tysons Galleria’s Nicole Devolites, who agreed it was the best they’ve seen.

ADP's Libbie Feldner and Micky Farivar, who writes the blog Diary of a Social Mom.

Kill the Beast!

Last night, we also joined the Kill the Beast Campaign at Midtown Loft, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society Action Network. One of its lead ambassadors, cancer survivor Donna Guinn Kaufman (with button), told us their events blend influential groups, from activists to people who love to party for a cause. She’s flanked by Daisy Johnson, Air Force chief of business operations Chris Matthews, and Serco’s Emily Ruggiero.

ACS state director Keenan Caldwell is here with Lawrence O’Neal, CEO of Lojic Acquisitions & Development, who co-hosted the event with Donna.

Fairfax Hospital’s Kristen Fleeger and Kim Cole.

Bethesda is Booming!

We stopped by the opening party of Vapiano Bethesda at the new hot corner of Hampden Lane and Woodmont to sample the casual joint’s fresh pasta and pizza and snapped its president and founder Kenny Hahne (once McDonald’s youngest franchisees in Germany) and CEO Bill Bessette.

C to C Events’ Rachel Fulchiero and Savvy Media’s Alexis Levine planned the opening.

Genius Rocket’s Peter Lamotte, Rakhi & Co.’s Rakhi Gupta, who’s getting ready to launch her online jewelry site, and Sisarina’s Melanie Spring.

Vanessa Meccarielli, Heather Mahoney, Kristina D’Ambrosio, and Makeda Saggau-Sackey contributed to today’s issue.
