CAREaoke!

Last night we joined Jordin Sparks, journalists, politicians and athletes in song at the fifth annual Childhelp Capitol CAREaoke fundraiser at The Reagan Building.

The American Idol sang three songs, including Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody from the film Sparkle, opening this summer.

We snapped GWAAB incoming-prez Christine Rales and Childhelp Board member Carol Hebets.

Childhelp is a national nonprofit dedicated to preventing child abuse. The karaoke fundraiser was founded by ABC7 anchor Rebecca Cooper, who emceed. We snapped her flanked by CNN’s Gloria Borger and Dana Bash, and Mamie’s Mile’s Elizabeth Manresa.

The National Child Abuse Hotline, 1-800-4-A-CHILD, operates 24/7. Here, Living Social’s Camille Watson, attorney Bridget Rainey, entrepreneur Chris McGill, and GrowTech’s Don Rainey.

Norman!

Choral Arts founder Norman Scribner has been thrilling audiences in DC and all over the world for years, but after 47 years of service, he’s retiring. You can catch his last performance at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall this Sunday, April 22, at 4 pm. Afterwards, there’s a celebration at the House of Sweden. Catch the beloved maestro one last time by getting tickets for both at choralarts.org.

Sip & Sample!

Yesterday we went to the first annual Georgetown Sip & Sample Sale at the Georgetown Courtyard, behind Café Milano. We snapped RPS MedSpa’s Susy Young and Cody Barry with Georgetown Boutique District coordinator Fran Holuba and Charm Georgetown owner Jaclyn Mason.

Georgetown Boutique District, repping fashionable area brands, hosted the sale, which had markdowns, cocktails, Georgetown Cupcakes, and live music. Here, Wink boutique owner Paige Speyer, Carmen Group's Alison Cricks, and Eisai's Katie Oppenheim.

There were specialty drinks by Cocktail Jerk’s mixologist Joseph Ambrose, winner of 1869 Society's ARTini Competition 2012 at the Corcoran. He’s with fashion stylist Tara Papanicolas, Georgetown Courtyard owner Robert Elliott, and Betsey Johnson's Jenny Zinn.

Boutique owner Julia Farr, Sherman Pickey's Ethan Drath, Urban Chic’s Lindsay Buscher, Queen Bee Designs's Allison Priebe Brooks, and Sassanova's Sassy Jacobs.

Craft Show!

Last night we also went to the National Building Museum for a preview night benefit kicking off the 30th anniversary of the Smithsonian Craft Show. We snapped Lockheed Martin's Linda Banton, MultiState Associates' Marcie McNelis, and interior design owner Elaine Cole.

The show is the country's most prestigious juried show and sale of American crafts. Guests enjoyed goat cheese stuffed dates, an open bar and full buffet. Here, realtors Rob and Linda Low flank SAIC's Ben Jones and his wife Commerce Department's Libby Jones.

Area bakeries made special cakes to raise funds for education, outreach and research at the Smithsonian. Here, FTI Consulting's Tom Conway, Vintage 59 Imports' Roy Cloud, Sharon Conway and children's book author Jane Singleton Paul, whose son played the piano in the John Paul Jazz Ensemble in the show.
