NYC 2010 Sustainability Summit

This isn’t just another green event.  With the newly appointed head of sustainable energy for the GSA, the largest landlord in the country with influence over $500 billion in federal assets, Bisnow’s 2010 Sustainability Summit will bring fresh insights into what some of the largest government and private sector players are thinking about green.  Boasting some of the biggest private sector portfolios in the country, the heads of green initiatives for Related and Tishman Speyer will share their insights alongside Eleni Reed, Chief Greening Officer for the GSA, as to where they are finding a yield in greening their real estate.

The GSA, the agency that controls all federal government real estate, is the largest landlord in the country controlling more than $500 billion in assets.  Per President Obama’s recent executive order to green the government’s buildings across the US in an effort to lead by example for the private sector, Eleni Reed’s position within the GSA was created.  Only a little over a month in office, Eleni is fast at work pursuing the government’s largest green strategy in history.

Charlotte oversees all green development activity for the more than $6 billion Related has underway or completed.  One of the largest developers in the country, Related is a leader in building green luxury and affordable residential, mixed use and retail properties. Prior to joining Related, Charlotte was a Senior Sustainability Manager with Bovis Lend Lease, a construction management company, and a green building consultant with Steven Winter Associates. Charlotte is a member of the NYC Green Codes Task Force Industry Advisory Committee and chaired the Technical Committee on Construction Practices.

Overseeing one of the nation's largest private green building/management initiatives, Riggs is currently working on 20M SF of LEED projects for existing buildings.  He is responsible for overseeing sustainability strategy and implementation, working with property management, asset management, design and construction, acquisitions, leasing, accounting, and capital markets professionals.

John, a mechanical engineer, provides holistic solutions to design and construction issues. He has experience in installation and operation of mechanical systems with an emphasis in sustainable design of residential, commercial, institutional, and government projects. He has participated on health care and educational facilities projects, as well as both new and rehabilitation projects for financial institutions. John is an assistant adjunct professor at the New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate where he teaches sustainable design and “High Performance Energy-Efficient Buildings.”

Grubb & Ellis was the only commercial real estate services provider selected by the U.S. DOE to participate in the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership pilot program. Michael is responsible for providing thought leadership in the areas of energy, sustainability and technology. He assists facility and property management teams in developing and implementing strategies that reduce operating costs and enhance the sustainability of operations. He was one of the founding members of the Grubb & Ellis Green Team and has been a key participant in developing Grubb & Ellis’ Roadmap to Sustainability and LEED Readiness Checklist. Additionally, he is a member of the Steering Committee of the DOE Commercial Real Estate Energy Alliance where he also serves as the co-chairperson of the Existing Building Subcommittee.
