Bisnow Exclusive:
Intelsat HQ Sells |
|
| Get ready for our 2nd Annual Prince George's State of the Market. Riveting conversations on new developments as well as critical transportation and infrastructure projects. Wednesday, August 15. Sign up now! |
|
| |
| See the Intelsat HQ building during your drive to work on Connecticut Avenue (near Van Ness Metro) this morning? What's different? Curtain wall parted on the opposite side? Nope, it's got a new owner: New York-based the 601 W Companies, which purchased it for a cool $85M. |
| |
 |
| We snapped the iconic building on our way to a party yesterday evening. CBRE's Rob Faktorow brokered the deal and declined to comment. Intelsat, which is in the market for a new HQ, will lease a portion of the building from the 601 W Companies for an 18-month term at a gross rent of $9M per year. |

| More from DICE |
| |
 |
| We snapped Coresite COO Jarrett Appleby yesterday morning as he gave the keynote at our first-ever national data center event, DICE. On his mind: The convergence of mobile, cloud, __ technologies. It's driving a long-term trend toward what he calls a "multi-tiered data center platform," a combination of retail and wholesale co-location strategies. |

| If you weren't able to make it to the JW Marriott, check out our coverage from yesterday's issue or subscribe to our national Data Center Bisnow pub. |

| House to Approve 12 Prospectuses |
| |
|
| Finally, a happy day on Capitol Hill: Today the House Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management is set to approve 14 GSA prospectuses, six of which are local requirements, JLL gov guru Art Turowski tells us. But the bigger news is the message it sends: "It's not the best of times between GSA and this committee, but business will get done." But matters are still far from easy—"This stuff is getting a harder look than it ever has before." |

| Last Night in Good Weather |
| |
 |
| For once the weather cooperated and we got together friends and clients at a certain publisher’s house in DC last night: from left, JBG managing partner Matt Kelly, Ballard Spahr Bethesda managing partner Roger Winston, Forrester Construction principal Scott Forrester, JLL SVP Chris Espenshade, and Stout and Teague principal Neel Teague. Nominations are due by Aug. 14 for names for Matt’s second kid, who is expected on that date, joining two-and-a-half year old brother Hank. As for Chris, she says if you have a big multifamily deal (and who doesn’t these days?) you should feel free to contact the lobster or ice cream shacks in Ferry Beach, Maine, where she hopes to spend time next month. |

| Thompson Reuters property tax director Dave Howie and colleague Natalie Young with Georgetown real estate program chief Chuck Schilke. |

| Twentysomethings: Bisnow’s Marie Finnegan, Karly Mintz, and Whitney Cohn enveloped Pillsbury lawyer-in-green Wendy White. |

| This Morning in Baltimore |
| |
 |
| Looking out from our event this morning in Baltimore, where the hot topic was the future of downtown and the waterfront. If you look closely, you can see the rocket's red glare. And, in fact, the bombs bursting in air. |
| |
 |
| Post-game, in the lobby of the beautiful Four Seasons where we held our event, we ran into Work Spaces' Bronwyn LeGette and Design Collective's Lou Ghitman. They told us they were off to "celebrate Baltimore's new urban life," which we believe translates to shopping—don't tell their bosses. |
